Frequently Asked Questions

1 - 4 of 4

Q1: How do the Steiner 685 observer w/ compass, compare to the Navigator Pro C #385 w/ compass? I am looking fo the best binoculars under $500. Thank you, Brian

A: They are very similar to one another. The differences are that the Navigator Pro C is a larger binocular yet it is amde out of a lighter material that allows the overall weight to be cut down to 2.19lbs. vs. the 2.5 lbs of the Observer. The observer however has a smaller body making it more compact and easier to store. It also has one of the easiest Compass' systems of any binocular i have ever seen. If you are looking to keep the price below $500 the observer is the best way to go.

Q2: Sir, Im looking for compact binocular that can fit my pocket or beltbag and suitable to Philippine climate? Regards,Ham

A: Compact binoculars don't come much better than the Steiner Steiner 10x26 Predator Pro. They have great optics with optical coatings that are optimized for picking out objects from lush surroundings. They also are fully waterproof and shock-resistant, just the thing for carrying around in a damp climate. Here's the URL; just paste it into your browser's address window: http://binoculars.com/products/steiner-10x26-predator-pro-compact-46616.html.

Q3: I want to sit on the beach and see what the people on the boats are doing. Is the 7x50 Observer the one for me; and can i get it cheaper without the compass

A: Steiner 7x50 Observer binoculars should do a nice job for you, Gary. They're great glasses! Unfortunately, though, they don't come without the compass.

Q4: I am looking for a good marine binocular. In looking at the steiner commander, I noted that it needs what your site call E344 alkaline batteries. I am searching the web to see how available and costly they might be and no one seems to have heard of them.

A: The E344 battery is an Energizer #344 watch battery. Here's the URL for a site that carries this battery type: http://24.227.47.211/adn62/pm-100-9-energizer-silver-oxide-watch-batteries.aspx.

Built to use; built to last!

The Steiner 7x50 Observer binoculars with compass are an indispensible tool for the mariner. Offering tough, dependable marine optics, they also incorporate the world's most stable and easiest-to-read compass system.

The new 7x50 Observers offer superb performance at an exceptional price. They're equipped with Steiner's Sports Auto-Focus system. That means you set them once for your eyes, and they keep everything in focus from 20 yards out to infinity without being reset. With Observers in hand, you won't miss a wind-swept rock while you're fiddling with a focus knob.

The compass system also includes a range-finding reticle to aid in docking or obstacle avoidance, and there's electronic compass illumination to help you take bearings in darkness.

Observers are guaranteed waterproof and shockproof to stand up to harsh marine use. In fact, their rubber armoring prevents slipping, even on a wet surface. They operate on two E344 alkaline batteries, too, and they're covered by a 10-year limited warranty.

Steiner 7x50 Observer binoculars - don't leave the dock without them!

  • Web strap
  • Rain and spray guard for eyepieces

How to use the distance range reticle

Divide the known height of an object by the points read on the reticle scale as seen through the binocular. Assuming the known height of the landmark is in feet, the result is the range expressed in thousands of feet. Example: A lighthouse is known to be 150 feet high, and appears to be 15 points on the vertical scale of the reticle. 150 x 15 = 10, so the distance to the lighthouse is 10,000 feet.

Included: Objective lens covers, Rain guard, Protective case, Neck strap, Cleaning cloth, User manual, Warranty card
