Q1: NIKON MEDALLION S COMPACT BINOCULARS WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN 8x21 and a 10x21 AND A 10x25?
A: In binoculars, the first number indicates the magnification, or "power" of the instrument, and the second shows the the size of the objective, or front, lens in millimeters. So an 8x21 binocular would be 8 "power" with a 21mm objective. The size of the objective lens is important because it affects the binocular's performance under low-light conditions. The larger the objective lens, the greater its light-gathering ability and the brighter the images it will produce. "Power" also affects low-light performance; the higher the power, the larger the objective lens that's needed to produce a bright view. All else being equal, an 8x21mm binocular will produce brighter views than a 10x21 binocular, but the magnification will not be as great.
