Received as gift along with Sky Scout. Wife was not aware that Sky Scout already comes with a case. While this case fits well and will protect against dew, frost, or dropping in snow it is a pain to use because the clear plastic cover that covers the function buttons do not allow for the easy pressing of buttons without other nearby buttons being activated instead of the one you want. Other than that the clear cover also made some nasty scratches on the plastic viewing panel of my Sky Scout. Not happy about that. I returned the case.

I use the Skyscout for information collecting and family fun. The Skyscout is a great and good looking item, but you would never know it when hidden inside this case. It brings me peace of mind to know the item is in a fairly dust/debris free environment but the awkwardness that accompanies the protection is 50/50 push. Access to the earbud and USB ports through the bag Velcro flap is poor and the Skyscout will not fit in its well made travel case when this protective case is on it. This is a shame as the travel case is a much better fit, offering a great deal more impact protection than this slightly padded case. Another annoyance is the loose fit of both lens openings. The case material will shift around while in use and occasionally obstruct your viewing lens or eye lens. As a last gripe, the vinyl window is susceptible to cold evenings and will become ridge and difficult to manipulate the controls through, especially when wearing [tight fitting] gloves. With all this said I gave the unit 3 out of 5 stars for its construction, strap on handle, and dirt/dust protection.

This is my product review on the protective case for the Celestron SkyScout dubbed the ScoutCase.

First off this case does have some good points. It's made from pretty heavy and durable material. It has a nice handle that you can slide your hand under. This gives a nice positive feel that you won't drop it or have it slide out of your hand. The clear front panel does not interfere with any of the buttons, or the reading of text on the front panel. The opening for both the front and back view finder line up perfectly, and it doesn't interfere one bit with the GPS. It's a great investment to protect your SkyScout from moisture finger prints and other things when out in the field. Also it has a velcro flap that allows you to plug in the headphones, or the USB cable for updating. You will have to take this case off to change batteries and insert the smart cards if you have them.

The cons of this product. There isn't very many, but just a couple. First off the clear plastic front cover scuffed the front screen on my SkyScout just a little. I couldn't wipe the scuff mark off. I got lucky that it was only one, small and on the bottom just above the GPS button. I don't see it in the dark, and it doesn't show up with the red back lighting.

What I done to make sure this doesn't happen again, is I took the little clear protective sheet that was on the display when it shipped, and just put it back on the screen. It just sticks with static cling. This protects my SkyScout screen from any such marks from this cover or any thing else, plus it doesn't affect the reading of the screen.

Also, it says that you can store your SkyScout in the case with this cover on. Well, you can't. It will not fit unless you try to cram it in the case. Just take it off when your done using it, and store it in the second compartment of the case that came with the SkyScout. Then slide it on right before you use it.

The target button on top of the SkyScout is just slightly off the little window on top of this case. Also be careful if you try to slide the SkyScout in the case so the button on top lines up. It will put enough pressure on the power button to turn it on or off.

All in all, this case is worth the price. The protection you get for your SkyScout and the protection from fingerprints, moisture and any other things are nice. I would recommend this, I feel it's a good product.
