This high-quality 45-degree prism aids viewing on land by orienting images in a correct fashion, instead of reversed left to right, as they appear without the adapter. I bought this so I could use the ETX-80 on land. It fits well and works as expected (i.e., very well).

But it turns out to be very useful for atronomical. I leave a long focal length eyepiece in this unit, giving about 18 power, and then an eyepiece of about 100x in the astronomical mount: with the Barlow (built in in the ETX) this means I have a great spotting power with this eyepiece, and can then move progressively to 100 power, and with the flipp of a lever, to 200. Works very very well.

I used this Meade diagonal on a Celestron NexStar 4SE since Celestron decided to discontinue their own diagonal referenced in the manual for my scope. The Meade diagonal mated to the NexStar 4SE fine. The optics were good and it allows me to use my scope for terrestrial viewing.

Meade's quality control could be improved. The set screw for the eye piece was stripped so badly that the screw fell out of the treaded hole when I was doing an initial inspection on the diagonal. I did not want to wait for any kind of replacement so I re-tapped the hole and used a slightly larger diameter set screw. BTW - the diagonal was marked "Made in China".

Comments about Meade #933 45 Erecting Prism 1.25 Inch for ETX 70/80 Telescopes:

This was designed for a high quality, lower priced telescope. I was thankful and both amazed that this too was designed for a high quality lower priced telescope. I was getting it for the camera port on myETX80 to use with a projecter adapter and barlow lens for digiscoping..... and needed a solid adapter to handle all of the weight. It's all alluminum and very solid and can handle a DSLR body, projector adapter and barlow lens with very little movement on your field of view from connecting everything. Well, I guess that is all relevant to the weight of your DSLR. Get the AC power adapter for your scope though due to the power consumption to move this weight around. It works very well.

              Customer Q & A

Q1: How to install the prism in the meade telescope for land viewing. My budget is $400 for astronomical and terrestrial observation both.. KIndly suggest a good telescope which is handy and convenient...

A: the Meade ETX-70 is an excellent choice, to stay in the price range you are looking for. To install the prism remove cap from back of telescope and thread the prism on.

Q2: What does this prism do for my telescope?

A: What this prism will do is when looking through the scope the image will be right side up instead of inverted.

Q3: will the 933 erecting prissm fit all the etx scopes?

A: The Meade #933 Erecting Prism fits only the ETX-70 and ETX-80. For the rest of the ETX line, you'll need the #932.
