Description

Meade Deep Sky Imager II Color w/AutoStar Suite

The user-friendly astrophotography revolution continues. Introducing the new DSI II. It combines ease-of-use with a larger chip, greater sensitivity, higher resolution, and dramatically lower thermal noise.

Meade engineers have invented a remarkable new way to reduce noise without a cooler. This means you can take exposures for hours at a time. And the new thermal monitoring sensors automatically match your dark frames to ambient temperature so it's nearly impossible to take an uncalibrated picture. The software includes a new zoom feature for easier focusing and the squared pixels of the new larger chip make processing simpler and images more beautiful than ever. The DSI II is the world's first un-cooled camera with low thermal noise. And that's as cool as it gets.

  • Dramatically lower noise
  • Larger ( 1 /2") chip
  • 74% higher resolution (752 x 582)
  • Greater sensitivity
  • Temperature sensor

Comments about Meade DSI II (Deep Sky Imager) Color w/AutoStar Suite:

There is a sharp learning curve for the first time imager. Overall, this is a very powerful device. I live in a bright area and still can reach deep with a LP filter. With a little creativity you can get alot out of this imager.
Would of given it 5 stars if not for the software.

Comments about Meade DSI II (Deep Sky Imager) Color w/AutoStar Suite:

Being a beginner, with no experience at all, there was a learning curve with the software. However, once you figure out some of the basics, you can begin taking some pretty amazing pictures. Even with my Alt-Az fork mount, after a few nights out, I was getting some stunning photos.

It does require patience, though. I've still much to learn, but am very impressed and satisfied with the product thus far.

Comments about Meade DSI II (Deep Sky Imager) Color w/AutoStar Suite:

I used it straight from the box on the very first night with very decent stacks of image captures. The embedded software does tend to crash/lockup at times especially using the provided image processing software. The product is very robust for avid digital CCD users yet fairly user friendly for the beginning novice. I like to think I am slightly past half way toward the avid user. I got good images of both planetary and Deep Sky objects on that first night. There was a learning curve to the cameras sweet focus spot with my Meade 8in LX-90ACF. Once I overcame the focusing issue the DSI color II has performed very well. I am now getting at least 2-6 good stacks of images (100-500 count) per session. True color for deep sky is a bit more tricky than for planetary objects. Jupiter, Saturn, and the moon are very good with just minor tweaks to the auto white balance. Deep Sky objects require a lot more time to tweak the software/camera settings. RGB processing on these still might have been easier than having the color camera fully integrated. The capabilities per the price are still worth the purchase price by far... It is a great starting place to decide if you like astro-imaging prior to putting tons of $$ into even more sensitive equipment.
