Frequently Asked Questions

1 - 3 of 3

Q1: Does Zhumell, or anyone, make a sun filter in the same format as their moon filter?

A: There may be a couple of solar filters out there somewhere that thread onto the telescope's eyepiece, but avoid them at all costs; they're dangerous.

Q2: Can you use the Zhumell moon filter on a Jason 280 telescope?

A: The Zhumell Moon Filter will work with eyepieces having a diameter of 1.25-inches. To see whether the filter will work, just measure the diameter of your eyepiece.

Q3: I am an amatuer astronomy fan and I just purchased an ext70 telescope from meade and I bought the celestron eyepiece and filter kit also. My question is about the filters-I was observing Jupiter the other night and I wanted to try the red filter but when I looked at Jupiter with the filter on I could no longer see the moons can you give me some helpful info on the use of filters? also what is a polorizing filter for? thanking you in advance-rich ps I bought a flexi focus cable for my telescope and it came with an allen wrench to put it on but it doesnt fit the original knob screw - do you know a way to put it on or where i can get an allen wrench that will fit it?

A: regarding the allen wrench the easiest option would be to contact ScopeTronix directly at (866) 458-7658. regarding the filters there is no specific way to use them the best thing to do is use a color that contrasts the natural color of what you are looking at. For instance with a dark green filter and viewing Jupiter it will cause the Red-Dot to become more prominent. It will depend which moon you are looking for as well but the best things i can say are to literally just mix n' match if one color doesn't give you a good image switch it with a different color. A polarizing filteer halps to reduce the glare from bright objects providing better surface detail or LPR filter will help to reduce the level of light pollution near you and the scope.

Zhumell astronomical filters are a great way to enhance astronomical viewing. Compatible with any standard 1.25-inch-format eyepiece, Zhumell astronomical filters help to bring out contrast and definition in astronomical objects.  The #12 Yellow filter helps greatly when you're viewing Mars by bringing out the polar ice-caps, enhancing blue clouds in the atmosphere, increasing contrast, and brightening desert regions. Yellow also enhances red and orange features on Jupiter and Saturn and darkens blue festoons near Jupiter's equator.  The #21 orange filter helps increase contrast between light and dark areas, penetrates clouds, and assists in detecting dust storms on Mars. Orange also helps to bring out the Great Red Spot and sharpen contrast on Jupiter.   The #23A Light Red filter helps to make Mercury and Venus stand out from the blue sky when viewed during the day. Used in large telescopes, light red also sharpens boundaries and increases contrast on Mars, sharpens belt contrast on Jupiter, and brings out surface detail on Saturn.   The #25 Red filter provides maximum contrast of surface features and enhances surface detail, polar ice caps and dust clouds on Mars. Red also reduces light glare when you're looking at Venus. In large telescopes, a red filter sharply defines differences between clouds and surface features on Jupiter and adds definition to polar caps and maria on Mars.   The #38A, Dark Blue filter provides detail in clouds, brings out surface phenomena and darkens red areas on Mars. Dark blue also increases contrast on Venus, Saturn, and Jupiter in large scopes.   The #47, Violet filter is recommended only for use on large telescopes. It enhances lunar detail, provides contrast in Saturn’s rings, darkens Jupiter’s belts, reduces glare on Venus and brings out the polar ice caps on Mars.   The #56, Green filter enhances frost patches, surface fogs, and polar projections on Mars, the ring system on Saturn, belts on Jupiter and works as a great general-purpose filter for viewing the Moon.   The #8, Light Yellow filter increases detail in the maria on Mars, enhances detail in the belts on Jupiter, increases resolution of detail in large telescopes when you're viewing Neptune and Uranus and enhances detail on the Moon in smaller scopes.
