Description

Delivers the absolute highest contrast views of many diffuse and planetary nebula. For many objects, the Baader O-III reveals a level of intricate detail that rivals the best deep sky photographs. Our favorite filter for the majority of nebula, especially The Veil, Lagoon (M8), Swan (M17), Ring (M57) and Dumbell (M29). With a large scope, you can even view the famous 'Pillars of Creation' in M16 (Eagle).
The Baader O-III perfectly isolates the two doubly ionized oxygen lines (496 and 501nm), through a very sharp and narrow bandpass (8.2 nm wide!, the narrowest of any O-III filter). Unlike other O-III filters, the Baader O-III completely blocks longer and shorter wavelengths (ever wonder why some O-III filters appear RED?, instead of the correct 500 nm Teal color). The result is the highest contrast achievable in an O-III filter.
The O-III benefits from the precision fineoptically polished flat substrate, and advanced DWDM plasma assisted coatings. As a result, the Baader O-III will not degrade image sharpness or impart double images. To prevent deterioration from cleaning or exposure to moisture, some other filters even resort to sandwiching their delicate coatings between two layers of filter glass, resulting in potential blurred or double images. Contrary to myth, nebula filters are often useful at high magnifications, where image quality counts. Baader O-III filters can take high magnifications, and stars retain their pinpoint sharpness, even if the filter is used far ahead of the image plane (ie, for imaging use, or ahead of a star diagonal or binoviewer). Combine with our UV/IR filter for the ultimate in O-III deep sky imaging.

Comments about Baader Planetarium O-III Nebula Telescope Filter:

After reading so much literature about what filter to get for Nebula viewing, I opted for the UHC-S first. While it does improve some planetary nebula, I still couldn't see much of the gas clouds out there. I was very frustrated. I finally saved up for this OIII filter and WOW, what an incredible difference. Not only was it better than the UHC-S on planetary nebula, but suddenly the whole of nebulae opened up to me. Two nebulae I have struggled to see in the past, the Veil and Eagle, were suddenly vivid and beautiful. The Dumbell nebula (M27) really looked like the hourglass shape, and all planetary are now within my grasp. I use this filter with my Nexstar 8SE and Hyperion eyepieces, a perfect combination to finally see those elusive nebulae. Forget the UHC-S and go with this first! You will see more in greater detail.

Comments about Baader Planetarium O-III Nebula Telescope Filter:

I find the BAADER OIII 2" Filter to be well made and received with no damage or faults. I have not had time yet to observe with it but know it has gotten high marks for contrast by established observers. One thing that is apparent though is the filter threads are at least not standard with UO MK-70 40 mm eyepieces. Also, the filter does not thread on well to an older UO 30 MM Erfle. I get about 1/2 turn on threads before they start to bind. I have not forced. This will be enough to test and evaluate filter substrate. BAADER needs to indicate what threat pitch or types of eyepieces their filters will thread into.

Comments about Baader Planetarium O-III Nebula Telescope Filter:

This filter does a good job of increasing the contrast of most nebulas while supressing the brightness of embedded stars.

Comments about Baader Planetarium O-III Nebula Telescope Filter:

It is a real narrow filter in the OIII band. I use it on the North America Nebula.

Comments about Baader Planetarium O-III Nebula Telescope Filter:

It is an excellent filter, with good optical quality and overall construction. It fits well on my Baader Planetarium eyepieces, and effectively heightens contrast on planetary and other emission nebulae, while darkening the overall view. However the threads on the filter do not fit well on non-Baader Planetarium products. It's useable, just not a snug fit.
