Description

The Lumicon Deep-Sky Filter is THE foremost broadband filter, efficiently blocking ALL mercury-vapor and high & low pressure sodium-vapor lamp light, neon lights and airglow, while allowing the rest of the visible spectrum through. The superior contrast gain between the object you're viewing and the black background of space allows you to view galaxies, nebula, star clusters, comets, etc. wonderfully when observing from light-polluted urban skies, making it the best all-around visual light pollution filter.
The Lumicon Deep-Sky Filter's high transmission in the H-alpha end of the spectrum makes it THE ONLY premium astrophotographic filter on the market for not only color photographs, but also for black & white photos and CCD work. Lumicon tests every filter individually on a Perkin-Elmer Double-Beam spectrophotometer, inscribing on the filter its % transmission for each of the primary spectral lines .

      I like this better than the Lumicon UHC in moderate light pollution; it shows less overall reduction in brightness (to my eye) compared to the UHC. It makes emission nebulae really pop, helps the planetaries a bit, but doesn't seem to do much for the reflection nebulae. All this is pretty much as expected, and I'm happy (though again the Lumicon price-premium is tough to swallow.)

      Depending on your area this may or may not be the filter for you. This filter blocks out many spectrum's of light however not all. It will be dependent on what types of lights are polluting your area. Sometimes it means the difference between seeing a nebula or galaxy and not. The filter will give everything a blue tint. Some stars, as well as nebula look pretty cool that way. I wouldn't recommend this filter to anyone that has a smaller aperture telescope as I believe it would just dim objects a bit too much. My next purchase will be the narrowband Lumicon UHC filter as I hear it yields much better results.

        Lumicon optics are expensive, but if you don't live in a dark night rural area, this filter is worth every penny. I was blown away with the difference that this filter made when viewing in an urban area. If you live in a light polutied area, this filter will make a dramatic difference.
