It's a great filter. Makes the Rosette easy to find, and the Orion nebula is amazing through this. This is primarily for emission nebulae. It does make some much easier to see, and adds detail and contrast. It's very good at what it does, just make sure you use it on the right targets. It has fit every eyepiece that I have tried, but they were all pretty ordinary.

So far, I find the Deep Sky far preferable in my moderately light polluted sky. The UHC admittedly darkens the background. But it just sucks a little too much overall brightness from the view. Open clusters lose too many members. :-(

We've been using the UHC filter on a 5 inch reflecting telescope. Even though this is a strong filter for a telescope this size, it does help cut the light pollution and improves the view on a number of objects. For bright planets, we're been using it in combination with the Orion planetary filter (great for Jupiter), and with both filters we can see detail in Jupiter's bands on most nights. I should add that a 10x magnification in a pair of binoculars allows us to actually read the signs on the buildings in downtown Boston - we're viewing in conditions of pretty severe light pollution.
