Reflex sight, Mounting base
Don't hunt stars without it!
If you're searching for a TELRAD sight for your telescope, it must be because you either had one before or tried one at a local star party. If you just tried one, you probably said to yourself, "I've just got to get one of these."
This is what happened to us at Telescopes.com. We tried a telescope equipped with TELRAD's amazing instrument and said to ourselves, "Our customers really need this." Then we quickly installed TELRAD sights on our own scopes.
The TELRAD Reflex Sight is the best-selling non-magnifying star finder for celestial telescopes. Many astronomers simply will not own a telescope without one. Certainly any Dobsonian telescope owner should consider the TELRAD finder a "must-have" accessory, as it makes quick, easy work of locating and finding objects in the night sky.
How it works
The TELRAD projects three red rings spaced at 4 degrees, 2 degrees, and 1/2 degree in diameter. These rings are used to "starhop" to objects. If, for example, a galaxy is 10 degrees south of a star, you simply count two 4-degree jumps and one 2-degree jump, and you're there!
The TELRAD is a super-comfortable finder to use, because you don't need to look "into" it as you do a conventional finder. The projected, red circles are clearly visible if you're looking 2 inches behind the sight or 2 feet behind it. And because the sight doesn't magnify, you get the widest-possible field of view, making locating and centering alignment stars on GO-TO telescopes a breeze. Even better, your view is correctly oriented, so what you see will match what's shown on the star charts!
Easy Mounting
Connecting the TELRAD to your telescope is very simple. The included base can be permanently mounted with screws or with the included double-sided tape. Either way, mounting is an easy task.
The 8x1.75-inch TELRAD reflex star finder sight uses two AA batteries for powering the illuminated rings. It's best used on large-aperture telescopes with bigger optical tubes. Small wonder the TELRAD reflex sight is a must-have for Dobsonian telescope and SCT owners.

Got this just recently to replace my Orion EZ Finder. I find it much easier to use the degree rings of the Telrad to jump across the sky than placing the dot and guessing at the distance to move my scope next. It is a little large on my 8" Orion DSE dob but I have added weight holders to the lower end to compensate. I found it very easy to install and alignment was a very straight forward process.

Comments about TELRAD Telescope Reflex Sight with Mounting Base:
I have a tough time finding things using the supplied finderscope on my Newtonian. This makes it so much easier to get in the neighborhood of what I want to observe. Also helpful for star-hopping. What you see with eyes is what you see through the screen. Once aligned, the object that I want is in the finderscope and can be fine-tuned from there. I do not find the size or weight to be any problem at all. This is mounted on a 150 mm reflecter.

Comments about TELRAD Telescope Reflex Sight with Mounting Base:
Now that I have the Telrad I spend less time finding DSOs and more time observing them. Can't say any better than that.

Comments about TELRAD Telescope Reflex Sight with Mounting Base:
No more frustrating, inaccurate red dots! The Telrad is the most accurate non-magnifying finder on the market. Once aligned to your scope (which takes about 1 minute), you will rarely ever have to readjust it, and if you do, it's simple.
Unlike red dots, which are only accurate from directly behind, because they "move" with your eye. the Telrad uses a "lens" set at an angle. This makes the rings visible in the same place at all viewable angles. It also has a brightness control, so even faint stars are easy to line up.
I have the Telrad mounted to the top of my Celestron Nexstar 6SE, and it makes aligning the scope a minute long process. Since fine tuning the Telrad, I no longer have to use 17-25mm eyepieces to make sure I'm lined up. I keep a 6mm eyepiece in my scope now when viewing anything...put the Telrad's center ring on the object and it's centered in my eyepiece.

Comments about TELRAD Telescope Reflex Sight with Mounting Base:
If you want pinpoint accuracy in a finderscope, then the Telrad is it. I recently purchased and mounted this on my Celestron Nexstar 6SE, and within 1 minute, it was ready to go. I started by aligning it to a small object down the street. Once it got dark I made one adjustment and was able to slew to objects using the Telrad and a 4mm eyepiece...it's that acurate.
To mount it, it uses two strips of double sided tape that are alreay on the base. Line the mount up...peel the backing off...and stick it to the tube.

Comments about TELRAD Telescope Reflex Sight with Mounting Base:
One of the first and still the best! Perhaps a little large for a small scope but on any relecter (Dob), or larger refractor it works very well.

Q1: What is the distance between the mounting holes in the base?
A: The mounting holes in the Telrad's base are 4.5 inches apart.
Q2: What is the best way to mount this finder to a new Celestron C8-S telescope OTA? Do I need to use tape, or does it attach with screws to existing holes? Can I keep the existing optical finder on the scope?
A: The Telrad Reflex Sight comes with mounting tape on its base. It also attaches with screws. There are holes drilled 4.5 inches apart in the base.
Q3: How long does Telrad Reflex Sight continuously run until the batteries run out?
A: The Telrad has an on/off switch on the side of the unit so it will not run continuously.
Q4: Are their adjustment screws to align the sight on an object you wish to view through your telescope?
A: Yes, there are adjustment screws to align the TELRAD Reflex Sight with your optical tube.
Q5: Does this work on reflector or refractor telescopes?
A: TELRAD Telescope Reflex Sight will work with Reflector, Refractor or Catadioptric telescopes.
