Description

Long exposure astrophotography hasn't been as easy or affordable as it is with the Zhumell 50mm Guide Scope. Now you can get involved in taking astronomical photographs without the need of a laptop or spending a fortune on an APO guide scope. All you need is a 1.25-inch CCD autoguider, your camera, and a clear sky to capture the amazing images you've always dreamed of.

The variable dovetail bracket allows for quick and easy adjustments, so you don't miss any action. Attaching this guide scope to your telescope with the mount base is just as easy, even if it doesn't already have an existing dovetail bracket - or if it is currently being employed by your finder scope. The 50mm aperture and 162mm focal length (f/3.2) makes for a compact and lightweight addition to your current arrangement, weighing only 16 ounces. The parfocal ring allows for less focusing, however, the front focus ring and locking collar provides you the option. It's time to start documenting all of your deep space explorations.

Comments about Zhumell 50mm Guide Scope:

The paint was so thick on the mount it would not fit the base. I had to do a considerable amount of filing and power sanding to get them to mate. One of the three thumbscrews used to hold the camera in place was bent to the point of uselessness. As far as guiding goes it works fine with the QHY-5L-II-C camera I have.

Comments about Zhumell 50mm Guide Scope:

well built. functions as advertised. like how smooth the fine focus works on the lense. Mounting hardware makes it easy to install and the ring to set the focus on the camera will be very helpful. very good value . Got a good price. looking forward to first light when the clouds break. hopefully soon.

Comments about Zhumell 50mm Guide Scope:

Well, I got this to replace an original Meade Finder on an old 8" LX200, which does not allow eyepiece exchange. That was OK in '98, bur now at 73 yrs I cannot get into position when the target is near the Zenith. This item will allow a choice of eyepieces, and can be used with a "star" diagonal or a 45° erecting diagonal. So, that means I will install the female dovetail plate on the Meade (assuming a non match with the original). This leaves a ring and a square plate with three holes. I imagine that these two items may relate to some nice cameras I own. One star off for no instructions, lol.

                Robin.

Comments about Zhumell 50mm Guide Scope:

The finder is very good scope, well-built. I overestimated is size for my telescope, this finder seems to need a much larger telescope than I have. It was more than I expected.

The only complaint was that it didn't have mounting instructions.

Comments about Zhumell 50mm Guide Scope:

Works like a champ with my DSI I, not so much with my DSI II. As near as I can figure, the chip on the DSI II is too big making the stars too small for PHD to pick up. Guided successfully on an f/5 refractor and an f/15 Mak-Cass.

I was initially concerned about flexure given the design, but it holds steady and I was able to guide for several hours the first night out.

Getting it to focus was tricky. Strangely enough, I had to use a combination of focusing the front lens by twisting it as well as sliding the guide camera slightly out of the ocular at the other end. However, once I got it focused I locked it down and have been good to go ever since.

As is typical with Zhumell products, no instructions are included.

It will pull double duty as a finder scope with a 1.25" 20 mm eyepiece. If you go this route, you'll want to put the parfocal ring on the guide camera so you don't have to fight with focusing it each time you switch. It's much easier to focus an eyepiece than it is a guide camera.

Overall, a quality product and a good value.
