I had the Motofocus attached to my Celestron 8in scope in a matter of minutes and was pleasantly pleased with the way it worked. I'm sorry it took me this long to buy this item.

So I've heard lots of die-hards don't bother with this product, but I gotta say, it makes viewing even better which means more fun.

Viewing in my area comes and goes and this focuser allows the viewer to slightly change focus while keeping the image still as it moves the focus knob. After a few seconds on slow speed it can kick into high gear and go fast to adjust for extreme changes in focus - ie, barlows, binos. All said, I can't see not using one -

Down side as I said - fragile, high speed is rather loud (on a silent night I suppose anything is), and the biggie - no manual focus. Oh well!

The (JMI)Jims Mobile Motofocus is one handy little tool.
I purchased the Motofocus primarily for use in prime focus astrophotography, but found that it makes viewing a much more enjoyable experience also.
The focuser installs easily and the controls are easy to use, even in total darkness.
The only cons are:
You can not focus manually with the unit installed.
The controller must be disassembled to replace the battery.

I use this on my NexStar 8SE and it works wonders! I no longer have to manually focus, which cuts vibrations on the telescope down to pretty much nothing. It's great at public observing sessions, too - just give the person the controller and you don't have to worry about them knocking your scope out of alignment. Overall, a very useful tool!
