Q1: Does the Celestron SkyScout work in the southern hemisphere as well as the northern hemisphere?
A: Yes, the Celestron SkyScout works all over.
Q2:
I couldn't find anything about the magnification of this item.
A: Celestron's SkyScout is not a telescope and does not magnify. It is chiefly an object-location device.
Q3: What exaclty is the SkyScout?
A: The SkyScout is a unique handheld device that instantly identifies and/or locates any celestial object visible to the naked eye. Point it at an object, and it will tell you what it is. Want to find a particular object? Just select it in the SkyScout's database, and SkyScout will show you how to get there.
Q4: I understand this product eats batteries fairly quickly. Does the Skyscout have an a/c addapter or an option for rechargable batteries?
A: The SkyScout "eats batteries" because owners often throw the battery protector away by mistake. If they keep the battery protector and use it, batteries will last a lot longer. So far there's been no AC adapter for the SkyScout, and no rechargeable batteries. You can, however, purchase rechargeable batteries and a charger at any hardware store for $20 or so.
Q5: once connected to a computerized scope, will the scout automatically slew the scope to the desired object?
A: No. The Celestron SkyScout will not drive any GoTo Telescope. You will still need to use the telescope alignment system as the SkyScout does not have capabilities of directly connecting to a telescope.
