Description

Red LED flashlight preserves night vision!

The astronomer's friend, Celestron's Night Vision premium red LED flashlight will let you see what you need to see without compromising your night vision. The NightVision's two red LEDs shed plenty of soft light while preserving night retinal adaptation better than red filters or other devices. Brightness is adjustable, and low current draw means the NightVision flashlight operates for a long time on a single 9-volt battery (included).
CHOKING HAZARD - small parts may pose a risk to children under 6 yrs.

Glad to have this. I'm new to astronomy and it takes me awhile at the star chart to get oriented so this was a must have for me. The rheostat control is nice as I can set it to what light level I need and it is bright enough to find dropped lens covers etc at max without hurting my night vision.

Not bad but could be better

I ordered this flashlight to use while observing with my Orion XT12G Dobsonian telescope.

The red-led works great and is very useful when reading star charts or changing eye-pieces, etc.

The red-led works great and is very useful when reading star charts or changing eye-pieces, etc.

My only gripe is the lack of an on/off switch. Instead, you must dial it up with the brightness dial. Since I usually use it at high power I have to continually spin the dial several revolutions to turn it all the way on or off.

    Other than that, it's great.

Comments about Celestron Flashlight Night Vision Preserver:

This is exactly what you need when working in the dark at a telescope, a variable brightness red light hanging around your neck where you can't lose it.

The 9V battery should last a long time. Replacement, when the time comes, should take no more than 30 seconds. No tools required.

Comments about Celestron Flashlight Night Vision Preserver:

This is poorly made Junk - fell apart right out of the box. (the lens came unglued and the lens cover does not stay on well now.) The only thing nice about this is the variable brightness. Skip this.

Celestron is a nice rectangular night vision flashlight. Built-in battery seems to be NOT accessible or replaceable. Otherwise a great flashlight for astronomy use.

Comments about Celestron Flashlight Night Vision Preserver:

This is very useful compared to making your own "dark eye safe" flashlight. I tried using an led flashlight with covering from a coke bottle (didn't work), then I tried using a couple layers of paper bags. The paper bag method either let too much light out or produced light that was too dim. Overall this product really helps when you are doing astromy things.
