Mount, Heavy duty tripod

Description

The TwiLight II Mount is a perfect grab-and-go platform where stability and smoothness counts. Designed to mount one or two telescopes at a time. Works with Explore Scientific, BRESSER, or any telescope that uses the Vixen-style dovetail bracket.

Stable and smooth, the new TwiLight II Altaz Mount comes with a dual mount head, and a heavy-duty adjustable-height tripod designed for years of rugged use.

You can use one or two telescopes simultaneously on the TwiLight II. Probably the questions that we are asked most is, "Why use two telescopes on a mount at the same time?"... Well many of our friends own more than one telescope, and it is fun to compare them side by side. It also works very well with crowds during astronomy outreach nights, allowing the host astronomer to keep one of the telescopes aimed while the people in line take a look through the other.

Of course you can use just one telescope on the TwiLight II. Our largest and heaviest telescope, the DAR152 (six-inch doublet), works fine without counterbalancing the other side.

The dual mount head accepts all Explore Scientific telescopes, and most other telescopes that use a Vixen-style dovetail mounting plate.

Comments about Explore Scientific Twilight II Alt-Az Mount with Heavy Duty Tripod:

The ES alt-az tripod and mount arrived early, was packaged well and as indicated in other reviews went together relatively easy. I did have to contact Hayneedle regarding an "E" clip that was left over after assembly and the mystery was solved pretty quickly. The "E" clip was installed. This mount/tripod is a "beast" (as my kids would say). Heavy duty and rotates just as smooth as silk. I have absolutely no concerns about the product, the service, the assembly and about the ability of the mount to manage my 23+ pound telescope.

Works great either in a tandem or single OTA arrangement.Easy to align scopes in a tandem w/ 2 OTA's

Basic setup but some instructions would have been nice as there are a few small parts.

Excellent ship time - mine arrived early!

Comments about Explore Scientific Twilight II Alt-Az Mount with Heavy Duty Tripod:

I use this as a grab-n-go for my ES 127 triplet APO. Quick setup, very sturdy and stable, easily handles 25+ lbs. Tripod is similar in heft and quality to a CGEM.

Altitude adjustments are easy, and the axis locks securely. The Azimuth hub rotates smoothly as long as the load is balanced on both sides of the head. With a 20+ lb APO on one side, you cannot smoothly rotate in azimuth unless you pull down on the other side of the head. (Even after lubrication with PTFE grease.) I will have to make a counterweight on a vixen dovetail...

A little expensive for what it is, but you're not going to find a better non-computerized mount.

Comments about Explore Scientific Twilight II Alt-Az Mount with Heavy Duty Tripod:

This is a very unique Alt-Az Mount in which you can mount any two telescopes - up to 25 pounds each- with dovetail mounts. I use my 80mm ED Refractor on one side and my 150mm MAK on the other. Since the two scopes move together -the result is two very different views of the sky at the same time. This mount is great for public star gazes! With the 2" steel legs you get a rock-solid, no-vibration mount.

Comments about Explore Scientific Twilight II Alt-Az Mount with Heavy Duty Tripod:

Searched for weeks to find an appropriate mount for an 8" F6 Reflector weighing about 23lbs that was more portable than a Dobson mount. This works super! I will be buying the extension as the 4' long scope just does bump the legs at zenith, but otherwise no complaints.
Unit does not come with instructions and I do recommend using a counter weight (not required) on the other side and using PTFE lubricant for best results. Accepts "drop in" vixen style dovetails, so mounting options for your OTA are plenty.

The only thing, it didn't come with were instructions. The tripod is the same as on the Meade LXD/75 mount, was up and ready to go in 20 minutes. Using with the Explore Scientific
"6 AR 152mm scope at 25 lbs had a hard time finding a mount under $450. it can hold the scope w/o counter weight.
