Celestron Reducer/Corrector f/6.3

 

This combination focal reducer and field corrector lens accessory works with all Celestron 5", 8", 9 1/4", 11" and 14" Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes. This clever accessory makes it possible to have a dual focal ratio instrument, without sacrificing image quality. The Reducer/Corrector is f/6.3 for C5, C6, C8, C9¼ and C11 telescopes and f/7 for the C14 telescope.

 

If offers wide fields of view with any Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope. Used for astrophotography, it reduces exposure time by a factor of 3.

 

Celestron doesn’t offer a f/6.3 Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope, because the design is impractical, with a large central obstruction, and resulting loss in contrast. This, added to the inability to utilize longer focal ratios for certain objects, led Celestron to design the four-element, fully multicoated f/6.3 Reducer/Corrector. Results are amazing both visually and photographically.

    I purchased the Celestron reducer/corrector in order to drop the focal length of my older C8 from 2000mm down to 1280mm. The reducer performs as advertised; my low-power eyepieces kept their edge-to-edge sharpness, while increasing the field of view. I'm now able to easily find (with help from a Telrad) and observe those large, faint "fuzzies" at lower power, while still taking full advantage of the light-grabbing power of the 8-inch aperture. I could not notice any change in optical performance, except for the reduced focal length and increased field of view for a given eyepiece. If you're looking for nice, wide, low-power views out of your SCT, but don't have the $700.00 for a TV 50mm panoptic (I didn't!), this is definitely the way to go! For a 2000mm FL SCT, adding the reducer/corrector will make a 32mm plossl act like a 50mm (40X mag), increasing the field of view, and saving you hundreds of dollars. Well worth the cost!

              This focual reducer does what it is supposed to do. However on my Nextstar 8SE, with the reducer in place, I cannot get my Nikon D300 to focus. There are ways to get around this I have been told, but I am in the midst of finding the best way.

                Celestron Focal Reducer

                I tried a less expensive version of the Celestron f6.3 focal reducer by another manufacturer and was disappointed with flared, arced star images in the outer field of view of my eyepieces.
                The Celestron f6.3 focal reducer produced nice images throughout the field of view in my small SCT.
                I use the combination of the Meade Telescope 8mm - 24mm Zoom Eyepiece 1.25 Inch with the Celestron focal reducer. I'm able to get fairly wide field views to locate objects, then zoom in with additional magnifications. The convenience of this combination can't be beat.
                The Celestron focal reducer is also great with "goto" SCTs as the wider field allows greater chance of objects being located in the eyepiece field of view. Adds a slight bit of weight to rear, but does not interfere with focusing. Recommended.

                Q1: 1. How does the reducer connect to a Celestron Nexstar 5" Smt.Cass.? 2. Also, can this item also be used at the same time that a rear mounted light pollution filter is being used? Thanks

                A: The reducer corrector will fit right on the back of the scope itself. Because of where it is on the scope you can definitely use it in conjunction with a light pollution filter.

                Q2: Is that reducer compatible with the new nexstar c6?

                A: It should work fine with the C6-S.

                Q3: Can i use the reducer with my NexImage camera and with normal eyepieces (1,25")??

                A: The Celestron Reducer/Corrector f/6.3 can be used both for visual observation and astrophotography with the NexImage imager.
