Description

X-Cel excels for planetary viewing!

If you're looking for an eyepiece that excels for planetary viewing, then Celestron's X-Cel, 25mm eyepiece is what you're looking for. It's an excellent choice.

Features at a glance

  • ED glass for sharp, clear views
  • Wide field of view
  • Limited focusing when changing eyepieces
  • Rubber eyecups for comfort
  • Long eye relief to accommodate eyeglass wearers
  • Filters thread in for convenience
  • Plastic case for secure storage

A six-element, fully multi-coated optical design, the X-Cel utilizes extra low-dispersion (ED) glass on its most highly curved surfaces. This minimizes chromatic aberration that can hinder planetary viewing.

With a wide, 55-degree, apparent field of view and a large, 25mm, clear aperture, the X-Cel is one of the easiest, most comfortable eyepieces to use, too. Every X-Cel eyepiece is parfocal with every other, meaning you'll do little or no refocusing when changing from low to high power. The X-Cel eyepiece also comes with soft rubber eyecups, and its threaded barrel accepts 1.25-inch, thread-in filters manufactured by Celestron and others.

If you're an eyeglass wearer, you'll also enjoy the 20mm eye relief available on each X-Cel eyepiece. Each X-Cel comes with a durable, plastic case, as well.

Choose Celestron's comfortable, convenient X-Cel 25mm eyepiece to get great views of the planets.

CHOKING HAZARD - small parts may pose a risk to children under 6 yrs.

purchased recently for a 8inch se and this EP IS GREAT! wonderfull eye releif and large lens help gather all the light needed for deepsky object and pulls in just enough to extract planetary and lunar detail. I have (2) 25mm in my binoviewer and the views are jaw dropping! when used with 1.6 and a 2 barlow the mag increases but with it's large lens the light is not lost when viewing small faint object. when used with a barlow the quality of construction shows. no image loss at all. no kidney beaning, no blurred images at the sides just clear as the skys from edge to edge. celestron has a winner with this eyepiece. for those looking for a dual purpose, planetary and deepsky sky, EP this is one to consider for it's great construction and quality glass. plus it won't break the bank. clear skies GJ

Just bought this piece the other day, used it about 3 nights already, I like it, shows a clear picture of the moon and really close, I got the 2.3mm. It's hard to get it on an object but I'm sure it is this way for all 2.3mm lenses, I am not new to this but still learning. Seems to do the job for the price. I would definately buy this eyepiece.

Comments about Celestron X-Cel Series Telescope Eyepieces:

I purchased a 12.5mm and an 8mm for use with my Celestron 8se. I had owned some similarly priced brand name plossl's and the X-CEL's are far superior for viewing comfort. The large aperture eye lens coupled with the long eye relief is comparable to viewing a screen as opposed to squinting thru a peephole with your eye pressed up against the glass as is the case with Plossl's of these focal lengths. I did read some reviews elsewhere that had complaints of image degradation at the edge of the field but I am not finding that myself. So far I have used these to view globular star clusters, the lunar surface, Jupiter, and M42 (Orion Nebula) and judge them to be satisfactory for the price paid. Overall quality and construction (fit and finish) is perfect. I will be completing the set over time.

Comments about Celestron X-Cel Series Telescope Eyepieces:

The 5mm X-Cel is the most powerful eyepiece lens that can be used for the Celestron Nexstar 4SE.

Any eyepiece with more power- like the 2.5 mm will be to powerful to use.

The quality is fantastic, Celestron gives you more "Bang for the Buck."

The X-Cel Eyepiece Series is one of the best. Go and get one and see for yourself!

      Step up from standard plossl

Comments about Celestron X-Cel Series Telescope Eyepieces:

I bought the 25mm and the 2.3mm. The good: good eye relief, wide field of view, sharp image, parfocal (somewhat). The bad: Kidney Beaning, Kidney Beaning, Kidney Beaning, and minor coma at the edge of fov. These are a step up from the cheap plossls that came with my scope because of the reasons listed. However, on my fast f/5 scope there is coma at the edge of fov, which is expected, and you have to line up your eye just right or you get annoying kidney beaning. As an eyeglass wearer I normally don't wear them while viewing, however I put them on to test the eye relief. The 25mm was great with the eyecups rolled down - I didn't have to press them against the eyepiece to get the whole fov. The 2.3mm however, with the eyeglass lens TOUCHING the eyepiece I was limited to about only 75% of the field of view. On my 130mm f/5 Newt the 2.3 was pushing my upper mag limit at 280X. However, under average viewing conditions in a moderately light-polluted area, Saturn was crisp with the ring shadow clearly visible. The moon was great with both eyepieces. With the 2.3 I even saw clearly defined rifts on the surface and craters were razor sharp even to the edge of the fov. For the budget-conscious person, these are definitely a step up from the budget plossls and a great value. That said, I'm going to spend a little more and step up to the Hyperions

Comments about Celestron X-Cel Series Telescope Eyepieces:

I had to try this eyepiece and expected to not even get focus on my bigger scope as the total magnification exceeds 880x on my scope, with a listed usable average of 480x - which we know is also pushing it - and the planets cannot support this power as clearly as less power - but I knew by looking at the eyepiece it was possible it would work. The pinhole that would exist on a plossl at even 5mm is replaced here to be as large as a 25mm lens. At this size the view is tremendous - granted that the viewer must be straight on to the eyepiece as you will lose the image. But straight on, looking at the moon on a cloudy night, I saw the smallest of crators, crisp as could be, and even what the craters contained. My Meade 4.7 was not as clear, or even as wide - how can this be? Great optics!

            Customer Q & A
            1 - 5 of 6
                1   2

Q1: Can I use the 2.3mm Eyepiece with my Celestron Nexstar 80GTL? If not, what is the highest power eyepiece I can use? Do you have a Barlow lense that can help me gain more power? Thanks

A: The maximum useful magnification for that scope is 160X the 2.3 would be slightly too much. The smallest mm you will want to use is 2.5 a barlow will work as well as it will cut the mm of the eyepiece in half so a 5mm with barlow would be 2.5mm

Q2: I have an ETX 125 AT Telescope with 1900mm FL. . Will the 2.3 mm eye piece work on my telescope ?

A: Any 1.25-inch-format eyepiece will work on the ETX-125. That said, though, a 2.3mm eyepiece combined with the ETX's 1900mm focal length will give you ultra-high magnification of 826X. That much magnification with a 125mm scope will just be too much and give you dark, indistinct views. A 5mm eyepiece is the shortest we recommend. The 5mm will give you 380X magnification, which is getting very close to the scope's theoretical maximum.

Q3: I have a Celestron NexStar 114mm with a 1000mm FL. What is the maximum magnification (eyepiece) available for my scope?

A: A telescope's maximum magnification is generally considered to be about 2 times its aperture in millimeters. Much beyond that, image quality deteriorates rapidly. Based on that rule of thumb, the max for your NexStar 114 is roughly 228X. Given the scope's 1,000mm focal length, you'd surpass the maximum a mite with a 4mm eyepiece, which would yield 250X. So you certainly wouldn't want to go shorter than 4mm, and 5mm would be preferable. That would give you 200X, still plenty good enough for lunar and planetary observation.

Q4: I own a Meade 2080 8" SCT. Will this be too much for me using the 2.3mm x-cel and if not, how would you recommend using it? I assume no barlow needed, or if not , what combination would be best for me with this scope please. Thankyou.

A: Celestron's 2.3mm X-Cel eyepiece would procduce better than 880X with your scope, and that would be WAY too much. The X-Cel 5mm eyepiece would produce about 406X, and that would be pretty close to tops for the Meade 2080. Q5: Is it true that ucant use Orion filters on the X Cel series

A: It's not true that Orion filters cannot be used with Celestron's X-Cel eyepieces.
