Using advanced computer design, combinations of low dispersion and high refractive index optical glasses, and durable multilayer deposition coatings, Explore Scientific 82° Series™ extreme wide field eyepieces are optimized to produce high contrast, high resolution, and superior flat field characteristics.

The visual effect of these eyepieces with their long eye-relief and their 82° apparent field is truly a full-immersion experience. Your eye is relaxed, allowing you to easily use the "averted vision" technique to study faint details across a huge field-of-view.

Each eyepiece is meticulously assembled into precision machined metal lens barrels that maintain the perfect alignment of the optical train for years of rugged use in the field. The 82° Series eyepieces come with a twist-up rubber eye-guard that raise to the desired height for the comfort of the observer, and as experienced astronomers know, eye comfort is critical when trying to observe at the visual limits of the telescope.

To keep internal reflections to a minimum, all internal surfaces of the eyepiece barrel are flat black, as well as the edges of the lenses themselves to minimize the scattering of light within the lenses themselves.

In today's modern telescope industry there are many fine companies to choose from manufacturing top quality eyepieces. We invite direct side-by-side comparison with any other eyepiece of similar design, and we back our eyepieces with our exclusive Five Year Limited Warranty.* We think that you will find Explore Scientific eyepieces rank among the finest obtainable and represent an outstanding value.

Just received my ES 14mm today and I couldn't resist the urge to test it out straight away. It was quite late and I didn't really have time to set up my scope before calling it an evening. I broke out my daughters 76mm reflector for a quick taste.

Conditions weren't absolutely ideal- with a little dust in the air. But targeting M103, the Pleiades, and Andromeda high in the mid night sky revealed pleasant results. Andromeda's disk nearly filled the giant (as advertised) field of view. M103 was small in this small scope but more defined than it was with either of my generic 10mm and 20mm pieces. The Pleiades looked gorgeous with this wide field piece at this magnification.

Overall, for the money spent- this was exactly what I was looking for. Immersive is only a word. But to thoroughly understand its meaning- you just need to try out this quality eyepiece.

I was dissapointed in its performance in my 102ed f9 refractor. The outer 7% or so of the image circle shows up very amber-orange. I had hoped maybe it was a problem with my diagonal, so I ran it threw straight without, it still showed the ring of color. Used for nature views across our lake covered with snow, every view has a frame of amber color. I do have other ES 82 degree eye pieces and none of them have this problem.

Comments about Explore Scientific 82 Degree Series Gas Purged Waterproof Telescope Eyepieces:

I purchased this eyepiece to make easy access to telescope viewing for complete novice star gazers. They do not have their eyes in a certain position to view stars and deep space objects. The view is like looking into a pool of water reflecting the object being viewed and I enjoy the great view too.

Comments about Explore Scientific 82 Degree Series Gas Purged Waterproof Telescope Eyepieces:

I just purchased the 24mm which gives me 50X in my scope and a true field of 1.6 degrees. I couldn't be more pleased. It is now my favorite eyepiece. The wide field piece that came with the scope wasn't bad, but I truly didn't know what I was missing. I was sold when on my first good night of seeing, I put Andromeda, M32 and M110 all in one field. The contrast in the eyepiece is outstanding with my 8" Dob. There is a reason this eyepiece is rated as high as it is. I highly recommend it.
