Meade's modified achromatic MA12mm illuminated reticle eyepiece is a must-have accessory. Designed in 1.25-inch format, it includes a three-element, fully-coated optical system with good eye relief, diopter adjustment and double-crossline reticle. It's great for manual guiding with the Meade #777 off-axis guider or for the drift alignment that's so necessary in astrophotography. I bought this eyepiece to drift align my Celestron CGEM mount. It made a big difference in tracking errors, particularly when calibration stars were used. In fact visually it was unnoticable after several hours. BUT, expect the LED to flicker during brightness adjustment... It seems the potentiometer isn't quite up to task. However, once ajusted, you shouldn't experience any troubles. The ability to focus the reticle is a great feature too.

The illuminator on/off switch adjusts the brightness of the illuminator. It worked erratically a few times, then did not work at all. The on/off switch is a small potentiometer that adjusts the voltage to the red illuminating LED. [...] The second one I received was either on or off, the brightness could not be adjusted. The brightness must be quite low or it is useless. Curiously, the batteries were already installed, unlike the first one I received, and there was a sticker on the box that read "Quality Inspected." Other reviewers noted that the battery compartment would become unscrewed if it was turned on quickly. That problem has been solved. But clearly they have used a potentiometer that is prone to defects. Not worth the money.

Comments about Meade MA 12mm Illuminated Reticle Telescope Eyepiece 1.25 Inch Wireless:

The illuminating LED is so bad I'm returning this eyepiece. The potentiometer (brightness control) is extremely non-linear, with intermittant shorting, and provides no capability to control the reticle's brightness.

Comments about Meade MA 12mm Illuminated Reticle Telescope Eyepiece 1.25 Inch Wireless:

When adjusted properly: focus the rectile pattern, tighten the battery cap and get used to not turning it on quickly so that the cap does not come loose it works quite well. The rectile pattern is adequate for star alignment on go-to scopes. Had to call Meade to get instructions on how to focus the rectile pattern. The focusing ring could be smother but you should only have to do this once. Needs a "reverse" thread on the battery cap.
