I purchased this reticle eyepiece thinking I could use it for aligning my 12" LX200GPS. However, with a adjustable reticle with no detents, there's no way to know when the reticle is centered in the eyepiece, but you can get close by guessing, which is what I was doing prior to this purchase. As a off axis guider it would work fine. Also, a 9mm exit pupil is very small for us folks with glasses. Should have spent a few more dollars for a 15mm. If you are looking for a ruff aligning reticle, this will do fine and is better than having no reticle at all. As for the illumination, no complaints. Overall not a bad eyepiece for the price.

This eyepiece works well . A litle pricey, [...]. New price was about the same as trying to find one used. The dimming feature is a must on this type of eyepiece.

Before we had the eyepiece we could only approximate the centering of the guide stars we were locking onto for our goto Meade 12" SCT. Once the scope slewed into position on an astronomical target we'd have to search the field to find it sometimes to no avail. With the illuminated reticle eyepiece in use we were simply amazed at the new found accuracy of the goto functions. We highly recommend every astronomer purchase this eyepiece as it will help you get to where you want to go in the night sky! Awesome product!!!
