When I posted my initial review, I was mostly interested in submitting my findings after a viewing session but thought I'd include a couple photos taken with the 6mm Zhumell last night. Since I'm just now getting back into this after a long time away, I don't have my photo setup assembled yet, so used a very rudimentary method of placing my Canon 300D with a Canon 18mm-55mm lens at 55mm on a tripod, and positioning the camera lens directly over the eyepiece using manual focus. Because the camera lens angle must be at the same angle of the telescope eyepiece, as well as reasonably accurately centered, this method requires a lot of patience because of the 6mm's narrow view, not to mention tracking movement. But I ended up with a few decent photos and have attached a couple just to show the capabilites of this eyepiece. ISO was 400 and I used an electronic cable release. Scope is a C8 on Super Polaris mount with MD-6 drive powered with a Schumacher XP500.

Dealing with atmospheric conditions, light pollution and viewing that wasn't the best on a VERY hot and muggy night, along with centering issues, I took a lot of photos and ended up with a few that aren't too bad and at least show the capabilites of this eyepiece, although the photos don't capture the overall sharpness and clarity of this eyepiece when directly viewing. I'm definitely looking forward to clearer conditions and using this eyepiece more.

NOTE: This was NOT a good night for viewing Saturn but at least you can tell what it is. The lower portion of Satrun's rings are shadowed due to being slightly off center in the camera lens, but this was one of the clearest exposures. I will be working on a camera bracket setup to attach to the C8 to make things easier!

I'm impressed enough that I took advantage of a $20 OFF coupon and have ordered the 5mm and 12.5mm.

I have all of these eyepieces except the 3 mm , they are real nice oculars, and especially for the price. This review is for the 18mm. It is not parfocal with the others,it has a shorter eye relief, and it is not sharp to the edge like the others. I am VERY pleased with the rest of the series, but the 18mm is different.

Comments about Zhumell Z Series Planetary Telescope Eyepieces:

Finally had a chance to try the Zhumell 6mm Planetary EP this evening on my Orion XT6 Plus dob and StarMax 90mm Mak-Cass scopes. This was viewing the 1/2 moon only (been too cloudy to observe Jupiter in the early morning). Fantastic views of the moon! The 6mm equates to 200x on my XT6. Eye relief is great and the wide angle is superb. I even tried it with a 2x Barlow and the views were pretty decent even though the atmosphere was turbulent. I really can't compare it to any other EP's (the stock Plossls are just OK). Very good value for the money.

Comments about Zhumell Z Series Planetary Telescope Eyepieces:

I bought 5mm, 6mm, 12.5mm, 14.5mm and 18mm eyepieces to use with my 152mm f.8 refractor. The eye relief is great, the eyepieces are well made and offer views that are sharp edge to edge. All of the eye pieces above, as well as a 9mm Edge On series eyepiece (same eyepiece branded by another company and priced at $110), are parfocal.

The exception here is the 18mm eye piece which is not par focal with the others and it is also not razor sharp out at the edges of the field of view. It's still a good eye piece for the money, but it does not offer the same level of advantage over a similarly priced Plössl.

    Comfortable, good build quality

Comments about Zhumell Z Series Planetary Telescope Eyepieces:

One downside is the eyepiece barrel fitting is a little long, so I don't have room for my moon filter on the end. I can just move that down to below the diagonal though, so it's not a big deal.

Comments about Zhumell Z Series Planetary Telescope Eyepieces:

I bought the 6mm. I expect Zhumell offers the same superior quality optics and construction throughout all of the Z series eyepieces.
This eyepiece offers better optical performance than Huygens Ramsden, Kellner, Plossl, Konig, and Orthoscopic. It is just short of the optical quality of Explore Scientific, Nagler, and Tele-Vue Ethos eyepieces. I have all the above. I'm using all of them.
There IS NO better (price to performance) eyepiece available. It is essentially the same eyepiece and optics avaiable under different names BUT at (less than 1/2 the price).
You have to speak about "eye relief", the distance your eye can be from the actual barrel and cup to get a full image. Most inexpensive eyepieces or other optical designs in the short focal lengths, have only a few MM relief to be able to get a full field of view through the eyepiece. That scenario is very uncomfortable. Try viewing a planet using an eyepiece with short eye relief, say a 6MM Plossl, for a half an hour. Not only will you be uncomfortable while doing that, your eye, face, and neck will need time to recover.
This Zhumell series of eyepieces has 20MM of eye relief. That means your eye can be a full half inch back from the barrel and cup to get a full field of view. That alone is reason to buy this eyepiece.
The other valuable qualities of this series of eyepieces from Zhumell that are superior to other eye piece optical designs are:

      High contrast
      Flat field
      Color rendition
      Distortions at extreme low levels
      Threaded for 1.25mm filters
      Focal lengths from 3mm, 5mm, 6mm, 9mm, 12.5mm, 14.5, and 18mm.
The quality of construction and the optical design using 7 pieces of quality glass translates into a heavier eye piece than eyepieces of lesser quality. You'll have to make an adjustment to your scope to keep it balanced correctly.
The eye piece comes packaged in a well designed black box, has caps for both ends of the barrel, and is slipped into a resealable plastic bag with another small sized bag of dessicant as a preservative inside.
Buy one. You'll find out what I mean.
Why pay $30.00 when you can get lots better for $45.00

Comments about Zhumell Z Series Planetary Telescope Eyepieces:

The eyepiece I ordered came within a few days, was packed well and works fine. Image a little blurry first use, but it could easily be that the 8" reflector needs collimation, and /or that the seeing wasn't perfect.

            Customer Q & A

Q1: Will they accept standard screw in 1.25 inch filters?

A: Yes, the Zhumell Z Series Planetary Telescope Eyepieces will accept  1.25 inch filters.

Q2: On these Eyepieces, will the lower power ( 18MM ) work with Deep sky objects? Or are they just designed for planets and the moon?

A: To best view deep space objects with detail, you will likely need to use an eyepiece that is 12mm or less.

Q3: I bought a Celestron Astromaster 114 from you which I received this week. What is the maximum magnification I can use?

A: The max. magnification of the Celestron Astromaster 114 is 200x. With a 5mm eyepiece you'll get a magnification of exactly 200x.

Q4: Are these eyepieces fully multicoated, or just multicoated on critical surfaces?

A: The Zhumell Z Series Planetary Telescope Eyepieces are fully multi-coated.
