Baader Planetarium has evolved the wide-field astronomical eyepiece to a new level. Introducing the world’s first production Astronomical Eyepieces to use aspheric surfaces, the 31mm and 36mm Baader Hyperion-Aspheric 72º Modular Eyepieces. This new technology has allowed Baader to eliminate eyepiece aberrations without the usual penalty of extra lens elements, excessive size and weight, or high cost.
The Hyperion-Aspheric’s freedom from blackouts, kidney beaning, and lack of distortion combines with their long eye relief to produce a view that is uncommonly comfortable and natural for all users (including eye-glass wearers and users of popular astigmatism correcting lenses).
The ultra-wide 72° field is extremely flat and distortionless (virtually free of angular magnification distortion)
Baader’s renowned Phantom Group Multi-Coatings and thorough internal baffling produce an extremely bright and high contrast view that is free of scatter.
Superb for projection imaging. The Hyperion-Aspherics are threaded to accept the full line of Hyperion Digital T-Rings, for a robust direct attachment of almost any camera. The clever use of 2"x24tpi SCT threads for attaching the 2" barrel permits the Hyperion-Aspherics to directly thread onto the rear cell of popular SCTs. This results in the highest rigidity possible for imaging.
Dual Barrel Configuration – two barrel sizes are provided with each Hyperion Aspheric. The standard 2” barrel provides the full 72º field size, and a special wide-field 1¼” barrel provides the maximum true field ever in a 1¼” format, with a field stop size of 1.265”(32mm)! - perfect for extracting every bit of field possible in 1¼” telescopes or binoviewers.

I bought this EP for myself. The EP has great optics and the heavens look much brighter and the contrast is great. Also, the 70* FOV is absolutely amazing!

Comments about Baader Planetarium Hyperion-Aspheric Modular Telescope Eyepieces:
This is a great e.p for pretty much any focal length scope. I was nervous that there would be considerable distortion around the edge of the field of view in my shorter focal length scopes. I'm not going to sit hear and tell you that the view is perfect to the very edge but it is extremely close to perfect. In my longer focal length scopes the view is flawless. This e.p has great color correction, a very wide window to look through and the eye relief wasn't so bad for a longer focal length e.p.
One of my favorite things about it's design is the barrel. Being able to unscrew the 1.25" barrel and screw on the 2" barrel was great for getting the most out of the massive 70* F.O.V! Not to say that the f.o.v isn't impressive with the 1.25" barrel because it is. I was able to take in the whole North American Nebula with one of my dobs which is a first for any of the e.p's I have owned!
If I had to list some cons I would say that in my f/4.7 dob you do see some edge distortion but for the price it really does hold it's own to much more expensive 30mm+ e.ps. Also, it can throw your scope off balance due to it's weight. It's not any heavier than other e.ps in it's range though.
In my opinion I think this e.p is a great performer and I have no regrets on buying it. If you have used any of the other Hyperions you should know what to expect, great performance at a reasonable price.
