Description

The development of the Explore Scientific 100° Series Nitrogen-Purged Waterproof™ Eyepiece was a collaborative effort of astronomers and engineers who tested our prototypes again and again, in the field and in the factory to make refinements to produce the final production eyepiece.

These eyepieces with their huge apparent field of view not only gave the observer a panoramic visual experience, but they relax the eye so the observer could pay attention to subtle details for extended periods. These ultra-wide angle eyepieces played a critical role in the military for aiming at targets, and their long eye-relief counterparts helped reduce eye injury from recoil.

Each 100° Series Nitrogen-Purged Waterproof eyepiece is internally sealed and purged with inert, dry nitrogen gas to prevent internal fogging, to halt the intrusion of fine particulates and fungus, and to maximize the life of the internal coatings.
To make sure, every 100° eyepiece is tested by submerging them down to 1 meter of water for 30 minutes

Protection from the Outdoors - By making the eyepiece body nitrogen-purged and waterproof eyepiece internal elements will remain as pristine as the day they were assembled. The sealed, dry environment is impervious to internal fogging and contaminants such as fungus growing in between the lens elements. Our waterproof eyepiece is easier to clean, and there is no risk of cleaning solution migrating from the top of the lens and seeping around edges to be trapped in between elements. To insure a perfect seal we test every eyepiece in one meter of water for 30 minutes.

CHOKING HAZARD - small parts may pose a risk to children under 6 yrs.

Comments about Explore Scientific 100 Degree Series Nitrogen-Purged Waterproof Eyepieces:

There are many write ups about the quality of this lens and they are all on the mark. This lens is unsurpassed quality for the price. Combining a 2 inch format, 14mm focal length, and 100 degree field of view is a great combination for all of you who can use 2 inch eyepieces. I would definitely recommend it if you can afford the price.

Comments about Explore Scientific 100 Degree Series Nitrogen-Purged Waterproof Eyepieces:

I have all three 100*FOV eyepieces and I am satisfied with their price and quality.I live in a region with high humidity,so being waterproof adds to their value.I use these in my Celestron CR6 and find their quality stands up against similar eyepieces in the market.I will be receiving $10.00 off my next purchase for this review , which I will use when the ES 100*FOV 5.5 ML comes out.

Great 100 degree eyepiece, replaces alot of others around it. Shining flashlight on bottom field lens at angle reveals some concrete type glue around the edges, seems ok in use however.

Comments about Explore Scientific 100 Degree Series Nitrogen-Purged Waterproof Eyepieces:

Quality is terrific. The view in my Newtonian has quite a bit of coma, not the fault of the eyepiece, but it does make it difficult to judge edge performance. As far as I can tell optics are perfect with no false color. I didn't slew the scope while viewing so I didn't notice any distortion. in a perfect world it would have more eye relief, but that is the domain of ethos.

I would reccomend to ANYONE thats into astronomy to invest in ES eye pieces. I own the 2" 14mm and love it. Maybe Im just not high speed enough but I cant see much if any difference in quality between the ES and Ethos 100 degree pieces. Dont get me wrong I love my 2 Ethos EPs as well but at a $400+ difference in cost I feel kinda dumb spending $1400 on 2 Ethos when it could have gotten me all 3 Explore Scientific 100 degrees plus food for the month.

And yes, Im joking when I say its a good weapon lol.....
