Description

The C11-S GT Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope is the largest member of Celestron's Advanced telescope series. Celestron Advanced scopes combine state-of-the-art technology, easy-to-use features, and ready-to-use components to produce instruments of unparalleled quality and utility. The C11-SGT comes mounted on the CG-5 GT computerized equatorial mount, which allows access to features like automatic star-alignment capability and GoTo slewing to more than 40,000 objects. Equipped with high-speed motors and a hand controller, the CG-5 GT allows you to slew your telescope remotely to desired objects quickly and accurately. No matter whether you're a beginner, an imtermediate viewer, or an advanced amateur astronomer, this precision instrument will satisfy your needs both visually and photographically.

Celestron CG-5 Mount
This new German equatorial mount has precision worm gears on both axes for extremely smooth tracking motion. The heavy-duty tripod with larger and more substantial legs offers excellent damping characteristics for more stable views. In fact, the CG-5 is the most stable mount in its class. The CG-5 also has a convenient latitude scale for easier alignment and an optional polar finder scope for the ultimate in precision alignments.

XLT Coatings
Celestron's XLT coating process uses state-of-the-art, thin-film, vacuum-deposition technology. To ensure consistent optical coatings of the highest quality, the process is tightly monitored and controlled by highly trained technicians. Prior to coating, each optical element is thoroughly cleaned and inspected to ensure proper adhesion of the films during the coating process. Materials used in our reflective and anti-reflective coatings, including aluminum, hafnium oxide, titanium dioxide, silicon dioxide, and magnesium fluoride, are the purest available, exceeding 99.99 percent. The result is image clarity so stunning, it must be seen to be believed.

Comments about Celestron Advanced Series C11-SGT Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope:

I was looking for the largest lens that I can still carry by myself (estimating no more than 40 pounds). The optical tube at 31 pounds felt a lot lighter probably because of good handle design. Very solid construction, from tripod to mount to tube. Excellent finder scope at 9x50mm. Manual could describe a bit more on polar alignment. Overall great scope at great price!

Comments about Celestron Advanced Series C11-SGT Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope:

This is actually an incredible Telescope. It is rather heavy but it is reasonable to setup. You really need to devote several hours to observing if you are going to spend 30 minutes to setup and align. Once you get it aligned it really is amazing to use. I can honestly say that I am really impressed and would highly recommended. That being said now let me vent. How can the folks a Celestron not think that adding an AC ADAPTER be a good idea. Really did they think that the moment the boxes arrived we would jump in our cars and head to some remote site and use the CAR ADAPTER SERIOUSLY!!!!!!!!!!! NO Celestron we set it up in our backyards first to figure it out. Secondly why would you not include a RED DOT finderscope. The really sad part is that Celestron makes a really nice RED DOT finderscope. Do the fine folks at Celestron realize how much easier it would be to align with a RED DOT. Thank you I feel better already. Yes I would recommend this telescope. It really is a pleasure to use and well worth the time to set it up.

Comments about Celestron Advanced Series C11-SGT Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope:

Well I have had the scope out twice now. Both times I could not get an accurate alignment on Polaris due to weather conditions or light pollution. But the view of the heavens through this scope is to wonderful for words. On 11/18/07 I locked on to Orion and found the Orion Nebula...this scope tracked it for two hours and the nebula remained in the center of the eyepiece the entire time. This type of viewing is what I bought the scope for. I only stopped viewing because of frost. Great scope, great buy.

Comments about Celestron Advanced Series C11-SGT Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope:

[...]Scope assembled easly, just read the instructions carefuly. I like this scope because it takes apart with lighter parts. I believe the optical tube is about 29lbs. Easy for me to handle alone. Some of the other scopes tube and mount are together and weigh over 66lbs. Tonight it is cloudy and tomorrow rain. I will post the results of my first night using the scope asap. So far I am completely happy with my purchase.

            Customer Q & A

Q1: Besides the mount and GPS, are there any other difference between the NexStar 11 GPS, and the advanced series C11 SGT? Are the optics the same?

A: Yes, the optics are exactly the same. And if you add the GPS accessory to the C11, you will have a scope that is very similar. The major advantage of the GPS version is that everything is integrated together. Obviously the major difference is the mount. The C11 offers the EQ mount and the GPS has the dual fork mount. Both mounts are VERY good.

Q2: Does this model support the Fastar CCD camera assembly?

A: I am sorry but no the Fastar lens assembly that was made for the 11" Gps has been discontinued by Celestron, it is only available for the 8' GPS model now.

Q3: Does this telescope have a built-in motor drive? Can I use a power tank to run this telescope?

A: Yes it has a built in motor drive and you are definitley able to use the Celestron Power tank for your power source.

Q4: Can RA and Dec. coordinates be entered into the hand controller to locate objects not in the menus?

A: Yes that is one of the many ways to look for a specific celestial object.

Q5: Might I need a collimator for this scope?

A: You'll not require a collimator for the Celestron C11-S GT telescope.
