An excellent piece of work. I have been wanting to buy this product for a while but for some reason or the other( mostly due to financial constraints) it lead to my purchasing other scopes. I was not getting the feel for those products. I returned them and finally got this one and the moment I opened the box and saw the sturdy tripod I knew I made the right choice. I assembled the scope and the orange tube was a beauty. I aligned the finderscope and the target appeared right in the center. Tried Jupiter with all the eyepieces. The views were great except for the 4 mm eyepiece which was understandably producing magnification that was beyond the highest useful magnification. A extraordinary scope. I am not at all surprised why the SE series is such a success.

this was my first telescope and i bought it because it had the skyalign and i figured i could use it to learn more and find things in the sky well ive taken it out 3 times now and not once have i got it to align correctly i did some reading on this and it said to use the two star align i have not yet done this since it has gotten cold. This is my second telescope i have recived since my first one had a battery problem and had to send it back. This telescope has amazing optics very clear and also has a very stable tripod but i think once ive played with this more i will get it down and it will make everything better

Comments about Celestron NexStar 6 SE Telescope:
Easy set-up. Very nice optics. The telescope is compact and but stable on a very adequate tripod. I've had some trouble with the motor for the movement but I haven't read all the directions yet, so hopefully that will reveal something that I'm simply doing wrong. The remote is somewhat cheap in it's feel and does not seat easily on it's hook--a minor inconvenience.
Quality packaging.

Comments about Celestron NexStar 6 SE Telescope:
Nearly three years ago, I purchased a Nexstar6 SE, then sold it thinking I needed something bigger and "better". Missing the moderate aperture and portability, I recently bought another.
I was pleasantly suprised at how quite both slewing motors are in the "newer" models with the NexStar+ (plus) handset. Not that my previous one was that loud, but I doubt if the ones on my present Nexstar would offend even an old school purist observing right next to it at it's highest slew speed.
As far as optics, well... as good as ever. Image shift is practically negligible, as well as any internal reflections in my copy.
Don't make the same mistake I did thinking you need something else. The 5 & 6" models are excellent scopes as far as portability and moderate optics. I've used both models, and the mounts are fine for both, with dampening times for vibrations about half a second even at high powers.
The newer handset supposedly is less affected by cold weather which I cannot yet verify. It seems slightly less convenient than the old one..for example, you must go into "Deep Sky Objects", then find "Messier" or NGC, ect to locate objects.
Some hints and suggestions. You *really need a dc power pack or AC adapter with this scope. Using batteries on cold nights can make the mount sluggish and slew aimlessly.
Buy an aftermarket case for the handset to protect it from dew and moisture..then plug it into the AUX port near the top of the battery compartment and hang the handset somewhere on the scope or tripod. This is much more convenient than storing the handset and it's cord inside the fork arm. Put a piece of masking tape over the "autoguider" port so you dont accidently plug in there.
Consider the Celestron f6.3 focal reducer/corrector. This will give the f10 scope a wider field of view which makes locating objects easier when using GOTO to find objects..as well as helps ease curvature of field common in SCTs.
Again, if you own one of the Nexstar scopes, keep it!

Q1: Is the "Starbright XLT" an option or integrated?
A: StarBright XLT coatings are standard in the NexStar SE telescope series.
Q2: Does this scope swivel 360 degrees on the mount? Or 180 and flip the OTA for viewing on the other side?
A: The Celestron NexStar 6 SE's mount rotates 360 degrees.
Q3: How is the aperture rating?
A: The aperture of the Celestron NexStar 6 SE telescope is found by measuring the diameter of the scope's primary mirrors: 6 inches.
Q4: I have a Canon EOS 30D and I am wanting to get into astrophotography. Is this a good scope for me, if not, could you tell me which scope would be best for me?
A: Yes, the NexStar 6 SE telescope will do a nice job for you. There are more expensive scopes that will perhaps do better, but the NexStar 6 SE is a good scope with which to begin a career in astrophotography.
