Description

The Galileo FS-102DX2 is mounted on Galileo's Super Glide Altitude Azimuth mount. It's easy use up and down, left and right movement is great for beginners and casual star gazers alike. It also makes terestrial viewing easy when an erecting lens is used. The Super Glide mount features slow motion controls in both axis for precision adjustments. The Mount is attached to a very sturdy, fully adjustable, pre-assembled metal tripod with retractable rubber feet. The tripod also features an accessory tray with slots to place 4 1¼″ eyepieces or lenses. The optical tube assembly attaches to the mount by an adjustable tube clamp which in combination with the adjustable counter balance weights ensures easy fluid movement of the telescope at all times. The telescope tube features heavy duty metal primary and secondary mirror cells. The telescopes optical tube assembly is finished out with a large 2″ format focus tube. 2″ to 1¼″ adapter is included as well.

The Galileo FS-102DX2 optical tube assembly features a catadioptric design providing an 1100mm focal length (catadioptric correcting lens is fully multi-coated). The Primary mirror is a 102mm heavy duty mirror cell with push / pull collimation screws. The primary mirror is aluminized with Silicon Monoxide Quartz overcoat providing 92% reflectivity and a resolving power of 1.14 arc seconds. The secondary mirror has an obstruction of approximately 25% linear (approximately 6% of the total area). The optical tube assembly is diffraction limited at λ4 (1/4 wave in Sodium light). Included with the FS-102DX2 are an 1¼″ 6.8mm to 16mm zoom eyepiece (42° apparent field of view @ 6.8mm), an 1¼″ 20mm eyepiece (52° apparent field of view) and a 3 element 3x Barlow.

Comments about Galileo 1100x102 Catadioptric Telescope:

This scope was more than I thought it wold be for the price. I am a beginner and I didn't realize all the attachments that could be purchased to enhance the device as I grow in my experiences. I am very excited about learning more about our solar system, which is funny because I hated astronomy in school.

Comments about Galileo 1100x102 Catadioptric Telescope:

[...] This is my first telescope ever so I was pretty anxious and excited. Thankfully the assembly was for the most part easy and painless, literally done before I knew it.The telescope is nice and sturdy, the larger eyepiece is big and comfortable. You can see moon craters nicely. Unfortunately I live in nyc so there's not much visible in the sky relative to other places. I havent been able to test it anywhere outside of the city but I think it would do a decent job on some of the other planets. The controls are pretty tight, so you can maneuver slowly and once it's in a position it generally stays there. It doesnt need much room at all, and it's pretty impressive looking to visitors. Although it doesnt weigh much, I wouldnt call it very portable when fully assembled. You'd probably have to take it apart somewhat cause the tripod and counterweights make it kinda clumsy when lugging around. The software it came with was actually a nice surprise. I was expecting some really cheap stuff, but both discs are decently professional and informative. There's a disc that's a sort of planetarium, and another disc with some info on the cosmos.Keep in mind this telescope is for sky-viewing only, all objects on the ground appear upside down when looking through it. The only complaint I have is that the 'Mars view finder' contraption that came with it didnt seem to work at all. I dont even think it turned on. I tried multiple batteries to no avail. It's supposed to somehow help you find your target through the telescope lens. It's not really necessary anyway, although sometimes it does take a few minutes to find what you're looking for through the lens.Overall I was very pleased with the Galileo, a professional and sturdy telescope. Well worth the [$] in my opinion, especially with the included software and extra lenses.
