Q1:
I am considering buying this ETX-90PE Astro Telescope Premier Edition-(Meade) or a similar one. How much assembly is required? Does it find objects with its computer system?
A: There is almost no assembly required, other than inserting batteries, attaching the telescope and its fork mount to the tripod, and plugging in the Autostar controller. Then, once you've completed the simple alignment procedure, the scope will locate objects for you and track on them, so you'll not need to fiddle with controls to keep an object in view.
Q2: Do you ship to Australia? Is this the price in Australian dollars and if not could you tell me how much for the Meade Astro telescope premier edition?
A: Meade forbids us to ship any of its products outside the U.S. and Canada. We'd love to sell you an ETX-90PE, but we're just not able to.
Q3: Can you use this in conjunction with a camera and can it be viewed on a monitor?
A: Yes, the ETX-90PE Astro telescope can be used with a digital camera or with a CCD imager, such as the Meade DSI. When used with the DSI, the images will appear on a computer monitor. If you do not want to take pictures, you can view images on your TV or laptop with the aid of the Zhumell Digital Eyepiece. The device even captures live video!
Q4: I read that the ETX-90PE Astro Telescope can be controlled by my PC or laptop. My question is can images be viewed on my PC?
A: The ETX-90 is a great scope! You can control it with a PC or laptop via the #505 AstroFinder Software and Cable Connector Kit. However, you will not be able to view images on your laptop without a further purchase. The Meade DSI will image the heavens and transfer the images to your laptop. A less expensive solution is the Zhumell Digital Eyepiece. It slips into the scope's focuser in place of an eyepiece, and it transmits live video to your TV or computer.
Q5: Can I attach my camera to this telescope (35 mm or digital)?
A: Yes, you can attach either a single-lens reflex camera or a digital point-and-shoot camera to the ETX-90PE. For the former, you'll need a device like the Zhumell Universal T-Adapter and a T-ring to fit your camera body. For the latter, you'll require a device like the Zhumell Universal Digital Camera adapter-small. Here's the URL for the Zhumell Photographic Accessories page so you can select the T-ring that will fit your SLR camera:
