I purchased this telescope for my twin Grandsons who are five, and keep asking to use my WO Apo and Naglers by themselves. Of course this makes old guys a little tense, but they do a better job keeping objects centered than I do.

This telescope comes ready to go out of the box. It was well packaged and the freight company managed to get it here in one piece.

The secondary and primary mirrors seem to be well made and have great coatings. The R&P focuser, although made of plastic is still fairly smooth and stable. I put on a red dot finder to ease aiming for me, the kids just sight down the barrel. The tube is constructed out of metal with what looks like a powder-coated paint job. The dust cover fits well.

The eyepieces are OK, but the 4mm is just a touch overboard. The views are really more than I expected for an inexpensive telescope, very wide and pleasant. When I put my Nagler 13mm in the focuser and it really came alive. The telescope moves well in altaz with good adjustment options.

Bottom line, this telescope works much better than any department store telescope that sells for a lot more. It offers good stability and easy use for little hands. And to be honest I'm an only child and I don't know if I really want the little tykes to take it home, I don't want to share.

First night I have it, I take a look at the moon. It looks great and all but once I aim it at Saturn, I don't see anything that resembles a planet or rings... So far this telescope has been a big disappointment. I also do not enjoy the lack of instructions that are provided.

I bought this for my granddaughter but find I like it too. Great tool to teach her about the universe. Most people are amazed that a 3 year old would ask for it for your Christmas.

Cheaply made. Pathetic eyepieces. Celestron should be ashamed to have their name associated with this cheesy little JOKE. It was to have been a gift to a grand-daughter but we returned it instead. How utterly embarrassing it would have been to give this piece of junk to ANYONE. DO NOT waste your money!

      Comments about Celestron FirstScope Telescope:

Im not considered new to astronomy. I myself own a couple of large reflectors and a nice refractor, but those are time consuming to set up and are very heavy. So the reason I bought this scope was mainly for its portability and price. This is a great scope to use when you just want to spend sometime on your porch looking at the stars. A great grab n' go. the only down side to this scope is the cheap eye pieces that come with it. The 20mm is satisfactory and the 4mm is okay if you're just getting into astronomy. Saturn was just somewhat blury through the 4mm eye piece. If you have the money to spare and you think that you will be dedicated to astronomy then you should buy one or Plossl eyepiece for sharper views of the sky. I am fortunate enough to live in a small town with amazing skies so with this scope (and its 20mm eyepiece) I was able to see many DSO's including m13, m3, Andromeda , galaxy and its two satellites, the whirlpool galaxy, and MANY others. This little scope has far exceeded my expectations and I would highly recommend it to any beginning or experienced astronomer.

      Comments about Celestron FirstScope Telescope:

I have been interested in space for most of my life and decided to finally get a telescope to get some first hand views of the night sky. Found out about this telescope from a youtube video and decided that this would be a good telescope for the price. I am very impressed with what I was able to find (with the help of some apps), I've seen Jupiter and 4 of it's moons, the rings of Saturn. Just this evening I found M31, nothing stellar for a view with this little guy, but that is understandable.
It's been a great telescope to help me determine if I was going to be seriously interested in astronomy (very much, yes), so I would recommend this as a starter scope.
Some drawbacks to this scope would be the aperture, but for it's price, one can't really complain too much about that and it is really easy to bump the scope and knock it off the target.
Thumbs up to Celestron for making a great telescope for those strapped for cash and looking to start viewing the wonders of the cosmos.

      Comments about Celestron FirstScope Telescope:

Hi, I love looking at the stars. Have been looking at telescopes, and reading reviews for about two years. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a scope if I would not use it. I stumble across this scope and bought it to see if star gazing was for me. I love the scope, I have seen the Moon and was amazed at what I was seeing. I have seen a few of the planets, and looked at everything I could point it at in the night sky.
I have bought my son one, and he loves it. My seventy three year old mother wants it, but I'll buy her another one. This is so easy to use, carry it outside, set it on a table and your ready to go. I am now ready to buy a bigger scope.

      Customer Q & A

Q1: Is there a way you can put this on a tripod?

A: No. This telescope can not be mounted on a tripod.

Q2: Will the FirstScope accept 1 1/4" eyepieces?

A: The Celestron FirstScope will accept any 1.25inch eyepieces.

Q3: What are the best uses of the Firstscope?

A: The FirstScope is an ideal entry level astronomical telescope. It is very easy to observe with, the user simply navigates the night sky by moving the tube in the direction of their desired object, making the viewing experience a snap! The compact design makes it easy enough to take with you on your next outdoor adventure.  You would get great views of the moon, and you would also see some of the larger planets like Jupiter and Saturn but without as much detail as the moon.
