Telescope, Stand, 2 Eyepieces, Laser Collimator
Designed with you in mind
Zhumell's latest Dobsonian telescope is the result of a new approach to design. Customers like you told us how to improve our Dobsonian, and we listened. Never before has a telescope been designed with consumer needs, wishes and recommendations so much in focus.
The Zhumell Z10 Deluxe Dobsonian Reflector Telescope features a 10-inch aperture to capture substantial light for clear, long-range viewing. Used in conjunction with the two included eyepieces (32mm and 9mm) and Dobsonian stand, this telescope will make your night-sky observations and star parties more enjoyable than ever.
A primary mirror cooling fan brings the telescope into thermal equilibrium quickly so you can enjoy long viewing sessions without delay. You'll also enjoy the new adjustable azimuth bearing system, which facilitates smooth, even motion when tracking celestial objects. When you arrive at your subject, the dual-speed Crayford focuser allows for quick, easy adjustments, while the laser collimator ensures rapid, accurate optical alignment.

This was my first telescope and I researched types, brands and suppliers for a couple of months before selecting the Z10 Dob. Everything I've read indicates that the Dobsonian Reflector is the best starter scope ie: you get the most scope for your money including good ability to see deep sky objects (DSO) as well as planets. Arrival and Construction:I've had my scope for over six months so my experience is based on this time period. It [...] in 3 boxes. The 3rd box was for the deluxe package items including the 16mm eyepiece, telerad viewer, etc. I was a little reluctant to spend the extra money for this package, but in hind sight it was a very good investment. The 16mm lens is very good and the telerad is very helpful. You can't beat the discount you get compared to purchasing them individually. There were no instructions, as other reviews indicate, but knowing this up front I downloaded instructions ahead of the scope's arrival from both telescopes.com and the Zhumell web site. Construction was very straight forward. I added two horizontal handles to the base below the pivot point cutouts which allows me to move the base when the scope is mounted. If you do this make sure you use through bolts and not wood screws since the base is particle board. Some reviews complain about the base being particle board but it is nicely finished in wrinkle finish and all the "end grain" is covered with well made cap material. Just don't let it get wet.Viewing and Use:The overall quality of the scope is very good. Most of the components are metal and fit and finish are excellent. The quality of the images in the finder scope are not as sharp as I'd hoped. This does not impede its use in finding objects in the sky and when you switch to the Dob; Wow excellent quality. The Orion nebula is very clear and pretty with the 30 mm eyepiece and the trapezium stands out distinctly with the 16mm. Jupiter's banding is visible with the 9mm but not as sharp as I'd hoped. The 9mm is a bit disappointment. The double stars and multiple's in Orion were breathtaking. I could not split the companion in Rigel, however, until I purchased the Zhumell 6mm planetary eyepiece. This eyepiece made that little guy pop out like a Jack in the Box, very nice sharp view of this 7" double. From a dark site I was able to obtain very nice views of the ring nebula, which was best with an 11mm Explore Scientific eyepiece. I also had very nice views of M101 and M104 the Sombreo galaxy with the 30 & 16mm. This scope's strong point is pulling in DSOs which are not even visible in my 4" refractor. The Crayford focuser is well made, both alt and azimuth are smooth and I have no problem tracking objects at over 200x; something I was worried about with a Dob. I do notice when collimating, it's a challenge to keep the laser centered when tightening the primary mirror locking screws. This might be something Zhumell wants to look at.Lessons Learned:How to focus the finder scope is not obvious, but it's done by screwing the primary lens in and out and locking it in place with the ring. When first using the Dob. I found it hard to keep it from moving in azimuth. This is controlled by tightening down on the small bearing using the screw in the middle of the base. The 1.25 in eyepiece adaptor is threaded for 2" filters so you can use your 2" filters on your 1.25 in eyepieces. Well done Zhumell! I built a wooden box with wheels to both store the scope and move it around with the base strapped on top…. See photo. I used the original packing Styrofoam in this box to secure it inside.Cons:The Laser collimator wobbles in the 1.25 in focuser adapter, but my collimation appears to be fairly close when checked using a star test. The primary mirror center spot is off center by 2.3 mm which is enough to affect the views at high power. The Z10 is a very good scope especially for the money. I was debating about purchasing the 12 inch but am glad, now that I went with a more manageable 10 inch size. 8 & 10 inches seems to be a sweet spot for solid tube Dobs like this, when light gathering power plus portability are both considered. Overall I am very happy with this scope and would buy it again.

The scope came in great conditions and was very simple to assemble. Some of the cons in the 'construction' of the scope are that while the clutch mechanisms do make assembly a breeze, you really can't lock the telescope down. This becomes a big problem with the focuser. While the 2 speed focuser is nice, the compression rings, even when fully released will 'grab' onto your eye piece making changing eye pieces and staying on target extremely hard. You also have to 'lock' the focuser to keep it from being pulled out or pushed in since it 'grabs' the eye piece. Also, all of my 2" eye pieces needed to be 'pulled' out of the focuser some - I'll need to build a stop; it seems the focuser should be mounted 1/2" away from the tube (a modification I'll make). My only other complaint would be that the instruction booklet states that the dust cover comes with a smaller dust cover section you can remove for solar viewing. This is not true, it's a single dust cover and it's very flimsy; it easily falls down onto the secondary/spider assembly.
The pros is that it's very portable. While the tube may be registering at 50lbs, it really doesn't feel that heavy because of the size; in fact the base seems heavier even though it's 30 lbs lighter. For just observing next to the house, it's a definite grab and go telescope. The views of course are nice; M13 easily resolves several 100 individual stars. The ring nebula is easily defined. Rasalgethi was easily split even in turbulent skies; and Saturn of course was amazing.
I highly recommend getting some sort of adjustable seat with this scope though since because of it's height, it will kill your back to lean over!

Comments about Zhumell Z10 Deluxe Dobsonian Reflector Telescope:
I've been in astronomy for a number of years, and have owned several relfectors, refractors and SCTs. I bought this Zhumell Z10 as a easy-to-use and quick to set up scope for use with kids, outreach, etc. I performed a star test, and was impressed with the optics. Nice concentric, symmetric diffraction patterns on both sides of focus, no major abberations noted. The scope holds collimation well. As a matter of fact, it arrived with the secondary mirror in perfect collimation. The primary mirror only needed a minor tweak of the collimation. The focuser is smooth and solid for a mass produced scope. The smooth altitude and azimuth motions make manual tracking at higher powers easy. I owned a Z12 in the past. It was heavier, bulkier, did not hold collimation as well, and provided only a slight advantage for viewing DSOs (Deep Sky Objects). I think the 10 inch dob is a "goldilocks" size. Just right for the average observer. Complaints: The center "dougnut" on the primary mirror is ever so slightly off-center. Also, the laser collimator arrived out of collimation. After collimating the laser it works OK, but I still prefer my other collimating tools. Overall, I'm very happy with this telescope for the price. It is quick to set up, easy to use, and provides nice views. A lot of scope/accessories for the price.

Comments about Zhumell Z10 Deluxe Dobsonian Reflector Telescope:
I purchased the Zhumell Z10 about a month ago. There was a steep learning curve initially, but at this point I am pleased to say it is a fabulous telescope. The one caveat I would offer is that like so many things in life, to get the most out of this scope you must use quality eye pieces. It wasn't until I spent over $100 for a top-notch wide-field eye piece that I began to unlock the power of a 10 inch primary mirror. The views just last night of Saturn were fabulous.
The scope is well made. The directions to assemble it were adequate. It went together in maybe 15-20 minutes. I have no complaints, nor do I have any problem recommending the scope to anyone interested in primarily deep space and local solar System viewing.
Yes, it is heavy. It's a big scope. Make sure you check the alignment before each viewing session with the included laser. It's a snap and greatly improves the views.
All in all I am very satisfied.

I really have no idea on how to use telescopes...but with saying that .....I went forth and bought this and I am glad I did. My family and me were absolutely amazed by the viewing of the moon. When using the supplied wide view lens and looking at moon u could and can see every cratee, ridge, streaks, damage done the moon getting hit by meteors. Then I put in the 9mm and WOW!!!!! U could easily see craters with in the craters the ridgelines were even more defined. My daughter kept telling me how many aliens she was seeing heehee. For being under 500.00 u serioisly cant go wrong when purchasing this.
Now its time to learn my way around the sky and get busy oh and btw ordered on monday got It thursday same week.
