Description

Designed with you in mind
Zhumell's latest Dobsonian telescope is the result of a new approach to design. Customers like you told us how to improve our Dobsonian, and we listened. Never before has a telescope been so designed with you in mind.

The Zhumell Z8 Deluxe Dobsonian Reflector Telescope features an 8-inch aperture to capture significant light for clear, long-range viewing. Used in conjunction with the two included eyepieces (30mm and 9mm) and Dobsonian stand, this telescope will make your night-sky observations and star parties more enjoyable than ever.

A primary mirror cooling fan brings the telescope into thermal equilibrium quickly so you can enjoy long viewing sessions without delay. You'll also enjoy the new adjustable azimuth bearing system, which facilitates smooth, even motion when tracking celestial objects. When you arrive at your subject, the dual-speed Crayford focuser allows for quick, easy adjustments, while the laser collimator ensures rapid, accurate optical alignment.

Zhumell Z8 Dobsonian Telescope Features:

  • 8 Inch Aperture
  • 2 Inch Dual Speed Crayford Focuser
  • Clutch mount with tension knob
  • Primary Mirror Cooling Fan
  • Includes Laser Collimator
  • 2-Inch Format 30mm Eyepiece
  • 1.25 Inch Format 9mm Eyepiece

Alright, this is my first REAL telescope, After some research, I decided to go with an 8" Dob. I am very much satisfied with my purchase. [...] Setup was roughly 30 minutes. I was able to see the surface of the moon in crisp, clear detail. I was also able to see the orion nebula, it was quite breathtaking. A week later I also purchased the Zhumell 1.25 eyepiece and filter kit. With the 6mm and barlow, was able to easilly see Saturn, The Cassini Division, and several of her moons. The base leaves a lot to be desired. I am not a big fan of particleboard. It was also too low to the ground, and leaning over to view things gets old really fast. Not really a big deal though as it was easy to make a similar base using the old one as a pattern, 12" taller out of 3/4" plywood. Then I just used the same bearings. It works great now, and was even a fun modification to create. This scope is a deal, jump on it.

Disappointing amount of undercorrect spherical aberration which reduces contrast and resolution on moon and planets, also a bit of 'kink' in the collimated star image, possibly due to overtightened clips on main mirror. Not unexpected at f/5.9 in a low cost telescope. Will still give excellent low power views of star fields, star clusters, nebulae and galaxies. Comfortable to use while seated. Awkward to insert or remove the Tube from the Mount, because of the need to align the Alt.bearings to the slots in the mount. Bad that the primary mirror collimation nuts lie outside the Tube, making it impossible to set the tube down on its end without risk of misaligning the optics, or at worst, causing the tube to accidently tip over. It would be good to have all adjustment components inside the tube.

Comments about Zhumell Z8 Deluxe Dobsonian Reflector Telescope:

Finder objective and lock ring both cross-threaded. Providing a laser collimator and no instructions for use (as there is a clear vision safety issue involved)is probably CRIMINAL by U.S. consumer labelling standards. Perhaps it doesn't matter on Taiwan?

Comments about Zhumell Z8 Deluxe Dobsonian Reflector Telescope:

Unfortunately, we have had cloudy days since I gave this to my husband for christmas so we haven't been able to test it much yet. We did get to see the moon and Jupiter clearly one night. The instruction videos on YouTube have been very helpful.

    Service and delivery comments:

Delivery was amazingly fast!!! Shipping was pretty high, but the discounts offset that cost a bit.

Comments about Zhumell Z8 Deluxe Dobsonian Reflector Telescope:

For Christmas, we decided to make a family purchase and this year we decided to purchase a telescope. After a couple weeks of research, we decided to give the Zhumell Z8 a try. The telescope arrived a day earlier than estimated. The box was beat up a little but contents were fine.

I've read a lot of complaints about no directions included but I downloaded the directions and had it set up in less than 30 minutes. Not sure about all the complaints considering how easy it was to set up.

It did take me a couple times to get the collimation right but that was me working ahead. There is a great video on-line for collimation. Once set up and out side, I calibrated the spotter scope which works OK.

Now my favorite part, both included lenses worked fine. The moon filter puts a green tint on the moon but you can see great detail of moon craters and I did find Jupiter albeit small. Great first night viewing. I wood recommend buying a 2" moon filter from the start; the 2" allows you to see the entire moon and it would be nice to see it filtered. After our first night, I'm really glad we didn't go cheaper.

I'm sure we'll purchase many additional lenses filters etc. but out of the box appears to be a well made telescope that is very capable of offering stunning views.

Comments about Zhumell Z8 Deluxe Dobsonian Reflector Telescope:

Very nice scope, easy to use and really brings in the sky... So many stars that are not seen by the naked eye.

Just one negative comment, the scope needs to come with a manual.

I will also say that given the size and weight of the scope it is not any easy one to move from place to place. I don't mean this in a negative sense because the scope is what it is, and buyers should know this from the product info before buying. But, a scope this big and easy to use makes this a small issue.

    Customer Q & A
    1 - 5 of 6
        1   2

Q1: Is a tracking drive available for the Z8 dobsonian telescope?

A: Unfortunately there is no tracking unit available for dobsonians at this time.

Q2: Why is a RA finder showed, a straight on finder on the main image and no finder mentioned in offer? Do you get a finder with this scope?

A: The Zhumell Z8 Deluxe Dobsonian Reflector Telescope comes with a right angle finder scope.

Q3: Can you define focal ratio? Why is this important?

A:  A focal ratio is the ‘speed’ of a telescope’s optics, found by dividing the focal length by the aperture. The smaller the f/number, the lower the magnification, the wider the field, and the brighter the image with any given eyepiece or camera.
Fast f/4 to f/5 focal ratios are generally best for lower power wide field observing and deep space photography. Slow f/11 to f/15 focal ratios are usually better suited to higher power lunar, planetary, and binary star observing and high power photography. Medium f/6 to f/10 focal ratios work well with either.

Q4: Does the Z8 Deluxe come with a laser collimator?

A: Yes, the Zhumell Z8 Deluxe Dobsonian Reflector Telescope comes with a laser collimator. This is standard with this telescope.

Q5: What carrying case would be appropriate for this telescope. I couldn't find the dimensions listed.

A: Unfortunately we do not carry a case large enough for this dobsonian telescope.  The focal length of the tube is just under 4 feet.
