The popularity of our NexStar 114 models inspired us to go bigger! We are proud to introduce NexStar 130 SLT. The NexStar 130 SLT has 30% more light-gathering power than our 114mm telescope.
And the 130 SLT, like the other models in the SLT Series, comes with a fully computerized hand control. The computerized hand control gives you the ability to automatically track to view any of its 4,000+ objects, including over 600 galaxies, 300 clusters, and dozens of beautiful binary stars.
With its pre-assembled, adjustable steel tripod, the NexStar 130 SLT can be up and ready to use in a matter of minutes. Our new SkyAlign alignment technology and the included StarPointer Finderscope with a red LED makes aligning a breeze.
Begin to explore some of the fainter Messier objects using the additional light-gathering capabilities of the 130 SLT’s 5" primary mirror.
Because of the Newtonian design, the mirror gives fully color-corrected views that are best suited for astronomical use.
Portable, User-friendly Design
The internal battery compartment provides power to the high precision servo motors for rigid low-vibration performance while eliminating cord wrap issues associated with external battery packs. With the NexStar's ergonomically-designed hand control, the user is free to remove the hand control from its holder for remote use, or leave it cradled for hands-free operation. With a touch of a button you can select the object catalog, change the slew speed, view fascinating information about an object, or simply know if a desired object is visible in the sky.

I purchased the Nexstar 130 SLT package (Telescope, Lens kit, and Power tank) about a year ago. This was my first telescope, so this package was a great way for me to get everything I needed in one shot. Set-up is very easy, the go-to computer is straight forward and simple to operate. The lens/accessory kit is very useful, with the included barlow lens inside the kit, it will expand your night observations rather than just using the stock 25mm & 9mm eye pieces. The power tank keeps my telescope going all night long, even while simultaneously powering my laptop computer or other things I can plug into it. I was also surprised to see that the power tank could be use to jump start your car in the rare even that you ever needed a jump start without another car around.
I only had two complaints with this telescope. The first being how sensitive it is to vibrations. I therefore purchased some vibration suppression pads and it took care of the problem... while the pads don't get rid of all vibrations, it was a huge improvement. The second complaint was that the maker doesn't have a case for it, but I eventually found a padded soft case for it on another telescope makers website.
I use my telescope at public star parties with a local Astrological Society in the Southern California area. I get many compliments and "wow's" from people that look through my telescope. Bottom line is this.... It's a great value!

-Sky Align is pretty nifty but doesn't always move you to just the right spot (perhaps that's on the opperator, though)
-Wanted an adapter for eyepiece to feed into computer for many to view at same time-guy ont the phone said to go with the neximage. It is worthless unless you're producing pictures from the "stacked" frames and even then I wasn't impressed.
-Lot of wobbling and moving when trying to adjust the focus. Makes the 6mm lens with the Barlow very difficult.
-Not as awesome magnification as what the pictures on the website made it look but it is an introductory telescope
-The tracking feature is very useful.
-Even without a carrying case it is pretty portable and quick to set up and align
-Again, the bad advice on the Neximage really made the telecope much less useful for my group settings (with students)

Comments about Celestron NexStar 130 SLT Telescope Bundle:
Novice user. I'm taking my time to come up to speed on this telescope, so bear this in mind. After three uses, we have not experienced the level of detail or quality of images advertised in multiple reviews of this scope. Take that as I have more to learn. Kit is user-friendly, easy to understand, and seems WELL worth the investment. I do not have enough knowledge to recommend this to a friend.

Comments about Celestron NexStar 130 SLT Telescope Bundle:
I just received my telescope and have no complaints. I've only been able to use it one night so far, due to weather. Even after finding out I did everything wrong during my first viewing (wrong eyepiece, lens, location, etc. Lol) I was still able to get a nice, detailed view of the moon. I am really looking forward to using it more. Make sure you know the basics first, or you'll have a hard time, as with any telescope. I've been studying eyepieces etc and ordered a couple of books so I am able to enjoy the full experience. Remember, if you're a newbie like myself, it takes time and patience. A few books will definitely help. Assembly was amazingly easy as well.

Comments about Celestron NexStar 130 SLT Telescope Bundle:
I bought this scope nine months ago, and I've been extremely pleased with it. Aligning is easy, the GOTO functions work well, and views are fantastic for a 5 inch scope.
They eyepieces that come with the scope are servicable but nothing to write home about. I've bought a few more that work well in the scope.
i would recommend this scope to anyone.

Q1: What do the different filters do? Is there one that you can view the Sun?
A: The filters with this kit are used to change the color skew of the object being viewed. For example, if you were to look at mars and it looks too red to make out a good amount of detail, you can apply a blue filter and the details would "pop" out. We do have filters that will allow you to view the sun. They are called solar filters and they can be applied to the end of your telescope so that you can view the sun.
Q2: is there a case for the 130slt?
A: There is no case available for the Celestron 130SLT at this time.
Q3: How much does it weigh? How small will it fold into? Is it easily transportable?
A: The telescope's complete weight is 18 lbs. The telescope can detach from the mount and the tripod can fold down but it will require some separation of pieces to break it down. Once you break it down it is easy to transport.
