Q1: Can this scope be fitted with a motor for tracking and astrophotography? Also can it be used with a tripod so it can be used without a table or other stable surface?
A: The Dobsonian telescope was designed to pack maximum light-gathering ability into the least expensive package possible. It's strictly a hand-pointed device and can't be equipped with a motor drive or other automated tracking device. It's also a large telescope That is not suitable for mounting on a tabletop. It's about 5 feet long and rolls about on casters.
Q2: would you please tell me how large the box is (which includes everything inside)?
A: Zhumell's 10-inch Dobsonian telescope ships in two boxes. One measures 50x15x12 inches, and the other, 25x25x5.25 inches.
Q3: is a dust cover included & what is the primary glass made of.
A: We're sorry, but the Zhumell 10-inch Dobsonian doesn't come with a dust cover. Its primary and secondary mirrors are made from Pyrex.
Q4: Can you tell me where (specifically)these objectives are made for the Zhumell 10" Dob? I know that they are Chinese made but I have heard that some of the chinese factories that produce these objectives are better and more consistent than others.
A: Primary mirrors of all Zhumell Dobsonian telescopes are manufactured by Guan Sheng Optical in Taiwan. Guan Sheng is known for producing consistently good mirrors.
Q5: Is this an aluminum tube scope?
A: Yes, the Zhumell 10-inch Dobsonian's optical tube is made of aluminum.
Q6: Does the scope come assembled? Also, does it come with eyepieces?
A: The scope comes disassembled. It includes two eyepieces, a 32mm, 2-inch Wide-Field ocular and a 9mm, 1.25-inch, Plossl eyepiece.
Q7: What is the weight and length of the 10" Dob OTA? Thanks.
A: The Zhumell 10-inch Dob's OTA is 51 inches long and weighs about 24 pounds.
Q8: Do you ship to Canada, if so is there any brokerage fees to be paid or other charges?
A: We DO ship to Canada. Brokerage fees are included, however you are responsible for duties and taxes.
Q9: What is the actual magnifying power of the telescope shipped with stock eyepieces?
What do I need to buy to get the full magnification power?
A: The Zhumell 10-inch Dobsonian telescope can theoretically handle up to about 600X magnification, but because of atmospheric conditions, you'll very, very seldom be able to use that much. Most observation will take place at between, say, 50X and 200X, and the vast majority will be at around 100-150X or so.
The 32mm Plossl eyepiece will develop about 39X given the telescope's 1,250mm focal length. The 9mm ocular will develop about 139X. A Celestron Omni 4mm Plossl eyepiece will produce about 312X, and when used with a 2X Barlow lens, it will yield 624X, which will probably still be useful. Here's the URL for the 4X eyepiece; just paste it into your browser's address window: http://telescopes.com/products/celestron-omni-series-1-14-inch-4mm-eyepiece-19129.html.
And here's the URL for a Zhumell 2X Barlow lens: http://telescopes.com/products/zhumell-1-25in-2x-achromatic-barlow-31011.html.
Q10: Is the primary mirror center marked, and if not are there any 10 inch dobs that are?
A: Yes, the primary mirror on the Zhumell 10-inch Dobsonian telescope is center-marked.
Q11: Is the primary parabolic?
A: Yes, the Zhumell 10-inch Dobsonian's primary mirror is parabolic.
Q12: In the "Whats in the Box" section, one of the items you mention is "Wooden Mount Assembly and Hardware". Whats that for? One of th pictures shows the bucket sitting on the floor of a deck
A: The Mount Assembly is what's resting on the deck, holding up the telescope's Tube.
Q13: Can you ship Zhumell 10 Inch Dobsonian Reflector Telescope to Russia, Moscow?
A: Yes, we would be happy to ship a Zhumell 10-inch Dobsonian Telescope to Moscow, Russia.
Q14: The picture of the assembled scope standing on a deck makes this look more like an eight inch scope. The primary mirror is 10inches diameter, correct? Also, your reply to question #6 is that the scope come unassameled. Does that include the optics, or
A: Yes, the Zhumell 10-inch Dobsonian telescope has a 10-inch primary mirror. The optics and focuser are installed in the tube, but the mount must be assembled, and the finderscope installed.
Q15: is the 254mm dimension inside or out side? I am looking to purchase tube rings.
A: The optical tube of the Zhumell 10-inch Dobsonian Telescope is very close to 11.5 inches, or 288mm.
Q16: Will it cost to ship international.
A: Yes, there will be a shipping charge if the scope is to be exported.
Q17: Can you setup a camera to the telescope? Can you setup a solar lense with the scope?
A: Because of their simple altazimuth mounts, Dobsonian telescopes cannot be aligned to the Earth's axis and thus can't be used for long-exposure astrophotography. Exposure times longer than about 5 minutes will produce star streaks instead of star pinpoints. You could use a solar filter with this telescope, however.
Q18: Does the telescope come with a carrying case (or some sort of transportation/shipping device) and if not, what case (manufacturer/model) is recommended for the 10" Dobsonian?
A: The Zhumell 10-inch dobsonian Reflector Telescope does not come with a case. No one, unfortunately, makes cases for Dobsonian telescopes.
Q19: does the Zhumell 10-inch dobsonian Reflector Telescope come with an owners manual or instructions manual?
A: Yes, the Zhumell 10-inch Dobsonian Reflector ships with an instruction manual.
Q20: Are you sure this optical tube is made out of aluminium and not steel? And the mirrors are pyrex? Thanks
A: The 10-Inch Zhumell Dobsonian Reflector Telescope has an optical tube made of rolled steel. The mirrors are Pyrex.
Q21: I do have this telescope already and was looking at auto alignment tripods, are there any available out there that would work for this particular telescope
A: Unfortunately there is no auto tripod or tracking unit available for dobsonian telescopes at this time.
