Great beginner scope. I won this at a raffle and have enjoyed it everyday, I live in AZ so winter month is great stargazing weather. Scope is easy to set up, less than 10 minutes, and tons of fun for family with kids.
Eyepieces included are good for moon viewing and decent for deep space. invest in other eyepieces. The finder scope is terrible. Mine does not focus but does a OK job of getting you in the area. The mount is solid and light weight and great for traveling. The kids and I truly enjoy this scope and I will soon be upgrading and hey for the money you can't go wrong.

This scope is fairly decent and gives amazing detailed views of the moon! I found that the stand and mount vibrate too much for viewing planets like Saturn and Jupiter under higher power (Venus and Mars aren't worth looking at in my opinion). You can make out the bands and 4 moons of Jupiter on a clear night with the 4mm eyepiece supplied, but it takes a lot of eyestrain to accomplish. This scope just isn't powerful enough to be able to see the band separation lines on the rings of Saturn which I found disappointing.

Comments about Celestron PowerSeeker 127 EQ Telescope:

I just recieved this earlier than Hayneedle's expected delivery date.As always with ^ANY^ Celestron scope, easy to set up. The only small gripe( and not a gripe perse)was the accessory tray was missing from the box, which I contacted Celestron about, and new tray on its way from the factory. Hayneedle is the place to purchase your telescopes from, great low prices, Free shipping, and customer service 2nd to none.

Comments about Celestron PowerSeeker 127 EQ Telescope:

Wasn't expecting much, but it surpassed my limited expectations. You have to buy the accessory kit and a real barlow lens, only the 20mm included lens is workable.
If your unsure if you'll get into astronomy, this is a good start if you upgrade the lens. People complain too much, its a good value. Be sure to align the finder scope. Once you do that its not difficult to aim it at anything you can find.

After a week with this, I was so impressed by the images of Jupiter that I decided to buy a 10 inch, computerized telescope for photography.

Comments about Celestron PowerSeeker 127 EQ Telescope:

Wanted an entry-level scope for my daughter and I to share a new astronomy hobby which could be a platform for growth as we develop more skills. Chose the 127eq for it's affordably large aperture, and GEM mount (for future astrophotography) With the exception of the very poor finder scope, I am quite pleased with this scope. Star test reveled collimation to be quite good right out of the box, and once I ditched the useless finder scope and mounted a red-dot, star-gazing with my little girl has been a blast!
Be advised that this scope has a spherical primary mirror and a barlow focuser so, there are some compromises for the price. Would have given it 5-stars except for the spherical mirror and cheesey finder but, still a good solid scope!

        Customer Q & A
        1 - 5 of 12
            1   2

Q1: Does this telescope come with a tripod? Is this a good choice for viewing planets (i.e. good enough to get good pictures of Saturn's rings)?

A: The Celestron PowerSeeker 127 DOES come with a tripod. You should be able to get fairly nice, short-exposure photos of Saturn's rings through a short-focal-length eyepiece, using a digital camera. You'll need an adapter, though. Zhumell makes a good one, the Universal Digital Camera Adapter (small).

Q2: Will I be able to experience decent views of nebulae and galaxies with this scope? Is there a motor drive available?

A: Yes, with the Powerseeker 127EQ you will be able to see many nebulae and galaxies. There is no motor drive available, however.

Q3: Is their a solar filter for this telescope?

A: The Solar Filter for C5, N5, etc., should fit and work just fine.

Q4: I am a first-time telescope buyer and am not sure if I want to purchase this scope or the Celestron Starhopper 6in Dobsonian. Is the extra $100 really worth the improved quality of the Dobsonian? Which would you recommend?

A: The PowerSeeker 127 EQ is a good beginner's scope. However, the 6-inch aperture of the Starhopper will give you brighter, crisper views. It's worth the extra money.

Q5: Would I be able to view from inside our home? Our windows are double glazed and also tinted.

A: Yes, you would be able to use the Celestron PowerSeeker 127EQ telescope to some degree inside your home. Bear in mind, though, that magnification magnifies EVERYTHING, including imperfections in window glass. That means you'll want to use lower magnification levels inside.
