The Galileo Tri-Centric telescope is the largest advancement in altitude azimuth telescopes in over 300 years. The mount and tripod are fully contained in the pier unit, making it highly portable and ultra stable. Conventional telescope tripods cause images to shake due to a lack of stability from vibrations around the telescope. With the Tri-Centric telescope, once the legs are extended the accessory tray / stabilizer locks the legs into place making the entire Unit extremely rigid. This results in highly improved stability and clearer images. Attaching the telescope to the mount is extremely easy and all Tri-Centric telescopes use the same attachment enabling the user to upgrade the telescope easily without purchasing an entire unit. The Tri-Centric telescope like all Galileo telescopes features diffraction limited optics thanks to a highly efficient light transmission design.
The Galileo FS-120TC optical tube assembly features a 1000mm focal length. The Primary mirror is a 120mm heavy duty mirror cell with push / pull collimation screws. The primary mirror is aluminized with Silicon Monoxide Quartz overcoat providing 92% reflectivity and a resolving power of .97 arc seconds. The secondary mirror has an obstruction of approximately 25% linear (approximately 6% of the total area). The optical tube assembly is diffraction limited at λ4 (1/4 wave in Sodium light). The focuser is a 2″ format metal helical rack and pinion focuser with a 2″ to 1¼″ adapter to enable the use of larger 2″ eyepieces. The finderscope is Galileo's CIR electronic finder which is similar in design to the Tel Rad finder. Included with the FS-120TC are a 1¼″ 25mm Astroscopic eyepiece, a 1¼″ 10mm Plössl eyepiece and a 3 element 3x Barlow. The 25mm is a 3 element, fully color corrected, modified Rank Kasspheric eyepiece with an apparent field of view of 52°. The 10mm Plössl eyepiece is a 4 element fully color corrected eyepiece with an apparent field of view of 52°. The Tri-Centric mount is a balanced electronic altitude azimuth mount driven in both axes. Both axes can be driven at the same time with the provided handbox controller. The mount is driven to the west at the sidereal speed. Included with the scope are an AC adapter and a DC cord to run off of a car battery. All Tri-Centric scopes can be converted to a “GOTO” system by adding the Galileo “GOTO” hand box. Unless purchased as a “GOTO” system the Galileo “GOTO” hand box is sold seperately.
