I like this telescope, but the instruction manual as it came packaged with it was terrible in that it was a very poor photocopy of the manual. I recommend you download the manual from http://www.zhumell.com/manuals/Eclipse_user_guide.pdf and then you can copy the pictures with much better results to see how it goes together. Thsi is right from the manufacturers site. It was almost impossible to figure out how to mount the motor without the photo of the manual

I have ordered many times from TS dot com. Fantastic company and the people are the best.

This time I somehow got a lemmon. The Collimation is so far out of whack I am having a very hard time aligning the mirrors. And yes I know how and have all the proper tools. I also have to keep a 10"Dob and a 5" reflector in proper Collimation as I transport both over some rough country often. Set up on site always includes the need to fine tune the 10" so using the tools are for me the norm.

Near as I can see the primary and the secondary are no where near where they need to be. Center screw on secondary was quite loose and it is anyones guess now at a good starting point.

I will get it done, and I suspect I will then be pleased as I have been with all of my purchases here. I must admit I am a bit apprehensive accepting a scope this "loose" as it could lead to mirror damage during shipment.

If I had the option to return and perhaps choose something else, I would.

    I had to return my telescope package, due to shipping reasons, and what a pleasant and fast customer service we were presented with! One of the inside lenses cracked off the telescope, and then rattled around inside the telescope causing scratching on the mirrors. This was due to shipping services. In my family, we are all new to Astronomy. It is a Christmas gift for my son, and as a family, the other night, for the first time Astronomy experience, we really were enjoying looking at the moon and all the craters. We purchased the Zhumell 114 with the Motor Drive, Astronomy book and special lens case. The lens case is great! It has all sorts of filters and special lenses, and the case is beautiful. We are very pleased with our purchase and recommend the Zhumell 114 that comes as a package deal, and includes the Astronomy book, Motor Drive, and Lens Case..and also the Telescope and Tripod. We have plans to try to focus on the other planets next time, but we must figure out which lens and filters to use beforehand. The other night, when looking at the moon and craters, the moon was so clear! We could see every line outlining the craters...it was so very beautiful! I think my son started something with our whole family, since now we can't stop learning this wonderful hobby (astronomy), and it has been one of our everyday conversations since viewing the moon the other night. Also, the customer service at Hayneedle is so pleasant. The customer service representative in the telescope dept. spoke to me, and he was very educational about which is a good telescope..speaking about apertures, etc..things I have never known about, since I am new to this, but had to learn, in order to purchase a nice telescope for my son's Christmas gift. The customer service at Hayneedle is Excellent, and five stars in my opinion!

        The focuser is the absolutely cheapest I have ever seen except in a department store. Mostly inferior components.

        For the money, the mount is not really too bad.

        In general, for the money, I guess it's worth it. You get what you pay for

        Q1: What is the motor drive for? Will the image I see be right side up, or upside down?

        A: The motor drive is used on telescopes that do not have a GoTo system. You turn on the drive when you find an object you want to view and adjust the speed actuator so that the telescope will move with the object. The drive helps eliminate some of the manual functions you have to perform on your telescope. The images you view in the sky will be upside down and inverted.

        Q2: Does this come with a case?

        A: The Zhumell Eclipse 114 with Motor Drive Reflector Telescope does not come with a case.
