Description

Designed for the first time buyer

Offering exceptional value, the AstroMaster series features a compact and portable design with ample optical performance to excite any newcomer to the world of amateur astronomy.

Which AstroMaster Telescope model best fits your needs?
If you're looking for a dual-purpose telescope appropriate for both terrestrial and celestial viewing, then the AstroMaster Series is for you. Each AstroMaster model is capable of giving correct views of land and sky. The AstroMaster Series produce bright, clear images of the Moon and planets. It is easy to see the moons of Jupiter and the rings of Saturn with every one of these fine instruments. For views of the brighter deep space objects like galaxies and nebulae, we recommend the larger aperture and light gathering ability of the Newtonian reflectors.

If your interest is strictly watching whales, spotting birds, viewing nature, or checking out your favorite star or planet the altazimuth-mounted models are ideal. Alt-Az models have a convenient pan handle with built-in clutch for easy targeting and smooth motion. Models featuring the German Equatorial mount are a good choice for viewing stars, nebulae, star clusters, and planets. Built-in setting circle aids in locating these objects.

When used for astronomical viewing, AstroMasters yield breathtaking views of the Moon, Saturn with its ring structure, Jupiter and its belts and moons, nebulae and star clusters.

Every instrument features all glass optical elements as well as smooth operating steel tripod mountings featuring manual motion controls. All models feature coated optics for enhanced image brightness and clarity.

Note: This item is not intended for use by children under 12 years of age.

This was my first telescope and I've moved on to some serious equipment since. I had alot of fun with this scope and learned alot. I was amazed when I could see the rings of saturn. On a truly dark night, if you know where to look, I've actually seen the whirlpool galaxy with it. Its really ment for stars and solar system viewing though.

Received this as my first ever scope and its not bad, but not anything special really. Really the main thing you will be viewing with this is the moon, which you can actually get some good detail with. Jupiter can also be seen but is less detailed though i can make out some rings. My main complaint with this scope has to be the tripod, which is a little flimsy, and the panning handle which tightens poorly. But for the price it is i think its great for someone just getting into astronomy.

This was a gift for my 10 yo grandson for Christmas . It was delivered quickly when I ordered it and in good condition. Easy to put together and lightweight enough to lift and move. It appears to be sturdy.

Have not had enough time to see much since it has been cloudy at night.. Time will tell. My grandson loves it.

          Customer Q & A

Q1: How far out can you see with this telescope?

A: As this telescope is 70mm in aperture, it will not be able to view anything outside of our solar system with clarity. To see a wider range of stars we recommend any telescope that is over 110mm in diameter.

Q2: We're looking for a high-quality telescope for family use (celestial viewing only), with a sturdy stand (so kids can view once the image is scoped).

A: The Celestron AstroMaster 70 AZ Refractor Telescope does indeed have a sturdy tripod on which the telescope is located. The telescope itself is extremely easy to easy for quick viewing of the night sky.
