Offering exceptional value, the AstroMaster series features a compact and portable design with ample optical performance to excite any newcomer to the world of amateur astronomy.
Which AstroMaster Telescope model best fits your needs?
If you're looking for a dual-purpose telescope appropriate for both terrestrial and celestial viewing, then the AstroMaster Series is for you. Each AstroMaster model is capable of giving correct views of land and sky. The AstroMaster Series produce bright, clear images of the Moon and planets. It is easy to see the moons of Jupiter and the rings of Saturn with every one of these fine instruments. For views of the brighter deep space objects like galaxies and nebulae, we recommend the larger aperture and light gathering ability of the Newtonian reflectors.
If your interest is strictly watching whales, spotting birds, viewing nature, or checking out your favorite star or planet the altazimuth-mounted models are ideal. Alt-Az models have a convenient pan handle with built-in clutch for easy targeting and smooth motion. Models featuring the German Equatorial mount are a good choice for viewing stars, nebulae, star clusters, and planets. Built-in setting circle aids in locating these objects.
When used for astronomical viewing, AstroMasters yield breathtaking views of the Moon, Saturn with its ring structure, Jupiter and its belts and moons, nebulae and star clusters.
Every instrument features all glass optical elements as well as smooth operating steel tripod mountings featuring manual motion controls. All models feature coated optics for enhanced image brightness and clarity.

This was my first telescope and I've moved on to some serious equipment since. I had alot of fun with this scope and learned alot. I was amazed when I could see the rings of saturn. On a truly dark night, if you know where to look, I've actually seen the whirlpool galaxy with it. Its really ment for stars and solar system viewing though.

Comments about Celestron AstroMaster 70 AZ Refractor Telescope:
I bought this for my husband, who has always wanted a telescope. It was very easy to set up, and he was out looking at the moon in no time! It was so clear, our family was amazed and so excited to see more. We are amateurs, but the reviews i read for this telescope stated this could be for experienced or novice...either way, we are very pleased.

Q1: How far out can you see with this telescope?
A: As this telescope is 70mm in aperture, it will not be able to view anything outside of our solar system with clarity. To see a wider range of stars we recommend any telescope that is over 110mm in diameter.
Q2: We're looking for a high-quality telescope for family use (celestial viewing only), with a sturdy stand (so kids can view once the image is scoped).
A: The Celestron AstroMaster 70 AZ Refractor Telescope does indeed have a sturdy tripod on which the telescope is located. The telescope itself is extremely easy to easy for quick viewing of the night sky.
