Comments about Celestron Advanced Series C6-RGT Refractor Telescope:
For the moon!, nothing is better... Works great with my 2 inch eye pieces... I would upgrade eye pieces as soon as possible.
It is heavy... This can be dragged out every night I suppose.. Best combo would be a hundred mm on a lite stand to go with this.. Pull this out a few times a week. This is not a grab and go scope.
Ive had mine for a few years.. Its a big cool Telescope..
Ive been using the electronics to inline the scope for my specific needs.. Ive never used the star finder section...
For the stars, I use a pair of Binocs.
This is a sharp crisp scope. I do not believe a better scope exists for the backyard astronomer in a town or city when looking at the Universe. Light pollution is a problem in town.. This scope gets the job done.
However, this is not grab and go, and you will need a grab and go scope if your interested in astronomy... This is a huge telescope.. Grab some Binocs to go with it..

Comments about Celestron Advanced Series C6-RGT Refractor Telescope:
This is a great telescope for fun nights in the sky ! Although this scope is BIG and a little heavy, it is always worth the extra work to set it up. All of our friends and neighbors are very impressed when they look through eyepiece. It does take about 3 or 4 trips to set it up because this is a large scope (tube is about 5 long).
The long 1200 mm focal length provides for some "up close and personal" views of planets, star clusters, nebulae, etc. The moon looks so big you feel like you can walk on it !
A 2 inch diagonal and 2 inch eyepiece set really brings this scope to life.
Everyone at our telescope club enjoys looking through this scope. You can use it at magnification from 30 power to 240 power and get very clear views. On excellent nights I can use a 2 power barlow and view the moon, Saturn, and Jupiter at 480 power (this is with a 5 mm eyepiece combined with a 2 power barlow lens). The 5mm celestron Xcel eyepiece works very well with this scope and will provide 240 power with a nice wide view.
Overall, we really like the Celestron C6-RGT . . . . . . glad we bought it !!!

Comments about Celestron Advanced Series C6-RGT Refractor Telescope:
Bought this scope about three months ago, and finally feel that I've used it enough to write a meaningful review.
First, the scope has great optics for the money. My last observing experience we lucked out and had very good seeing. I was there with two friends with 12" dobs. I found the views through this scope equal to either of the dobs. Now, naturally, in poorer conditions I have found the extra aperture of the dobs to make more of a difference.
The mount motor and computer set up well, once you get the hang of it. And tracking has been great. No complaints at all. It slews right to what I need, and is always on target. The motor is, however, noisy. Think powerdrill noisy.
There are a few things that I consider "must upgrades" on this scope. The first is the diagonal. The one shipped is plastic and poor quality. Upgrade to a 2" 99% reflective diagonal and you'll be very happy. The second thing is a focuser. I plan on replacing this next month. I've found the focuser to be a bit shaky, and sometimes hard to get exactly right. A crayford is definitely called for. Given the optical quality of the OTA, these add-ons are money well spent. Finally, it goes without saying that you need to get eyepieces.
To be honest, the first month I used this scope I wondered if I had made a poor decision and should have went for a higher aperture reflector. But now I'm very happy. There is something about this scope that works for me. It is exceptionally clear. Globulars are very crisp and internally distinct. Doubles split with incredible ease. Even nebulas have a good appearance, although that is one area where the 6" aperture begins to be noticeable.
In short, highly recommended.

Comments about Celestron Advanced Series C6-RGT Refractor Telescope:
I did a lot of research in advance before purchasing this telescope and I was not disappointed with my choice.
I would not recommend this as someones first telescope. It's very big and fairly heavy, a bit to setup for each viewing if you don't have a permanent home for it.
For those looking for an upgrade from a smaller scope, this is a great choice if you're after the planets, and some DSO's. It is outstanding on planets and does well on many DSO's, though if that is your primary area of viewing you may be happier with more apeture.
The one thing I'm not completely happy with is the focuser, it's a little on the cheap side so I'll be upgrading that soon. It does an OK job, but for super fine adjustments it won't cut it.
The telescope is well build and the tripod is very solid.
Just a fantastic telescope all around.

Comments about Celestron Advanced Series C6-RGT Refractor Telescope:
I spent about 1 year at various stores, star parties, local Academic Astronomy offerings, etc. This was my first telescope purchase. After all the back and forth, I decided this was a purchase to keep for many, many years ahead, and I wasn't going with something small or aperature. thus, for me it was 6inch refractor, or 8inch catadiotropic, or large dob. tried them all, and was just disappointed by views in all but the refractor. I found the image to be crisp, accurate, and colors to be bright - all features that made me feel like it was a quality telescope. thus, went with celestron's 6inch refractor.
couldn't be happier. planets, moon, and stars all fabulous on first light. make no mistake, this is big telescope (just ask my wife). but, in some strange way, the largeness of the scope also makes it feel like a 'real' telescope - that it will effectively reach out into the heavens and bring them closer.
this scope is not for land viewing whatsoever, and takes about 3 trips to move - optical tube, counterweights, and tripod. but then it shines.
quality construction. quality tripod.
still have lots to learn, but couldn't be happier with the purchase.
one strange note, the goto only powers with a cord that plugs into the cigarette lighter in a car? (go figure). at a minimum, buy the AC adapter so you can run a cord to an outlet, or buy a portable powerpack.
enjoy!

Q1: How well does this scope perform on DSO?
A: The Celestron C6-R GT is a nice refractor. It has a limiting magnitude of 13.4, meaning you can bring in the light from about 15 million stars. You'll see many globular clusters resolved almost to the core, much internal detail in nebulae and structure in many galaxies.
Q2: Are there any pre-made transportation boxes for the entire setup, or for the tube and mount in particular.
A: The Celestron C6-R GT Refractor telescope ships in two boxes that protect it very well during shipping. There are no other transportation boxes for it that we are aware of.
Q3: Is the Celestron Advanced Series C6-RGT Refractor Telescope suitable for terrestrial use? I would like a good refractor telescope also suitable for terrestrial view.
A: Yes. This telescope would be very suitable for both terrestrial and astronomical viewing.
