Comments about Celestron Travel Scope 70 Telescope:

My wife and I travel quite a bit, and I have been looking for a small and compact telescope for just that. Being a Huge fan of Celestron, and owning both a 130mm Skyseeker Reflector & a 80mm Refractor, we were looking for something affordable and yet small enough to throw in the trunk that didnt take up a lot of room....Celestron Travel 70 is the perfect scope. Its even easy to take through a airport w/o major security issues, and the backpack is roomy enough to pack other items in it as well// Good Job Celestron & Hayneedle.

Comments about Celestron Travel Scope 70 Telescope:

We purchased this scope because my other telescopes would not fit in the car and we wanted something for showing friends the moon or Jupiter when we were out and about.

I tested the scope on Saturn, it was quite challenging due to the unstable mount. With any amount of zoom (using the 10MM lens, smaller lens = more zoom) it was very difficult to get a fix on the planet.

Because this scope uses a camera mount, you are limited to how high you can point it. At about 50 decrees above the horizon this scope loses it's practicality all together.

Even for the under $100 price range, if this is your first scope, I would recommend at least a 120MM reflector, and not a 70MM scope on a camera mount.

Conclusion. If you are using this to look at the moon, Jupiter, or birds; go for it. Also, if you have an equatorial mount, or want to use this a spotting scope for a large telescope, this would do as well. Otherwise, you will be unimpressed.

        Scope good, tripod poor

Comments about Celestron Travel Scope 70 Telescope:

My first telescope. I am pleased with the optical quality. My views of the moon and Jupiter (and it's moons) seem very sharp. Also very sharp when used during daylight for viewing wildlife. It seems sharper, and brighter than the spotting scopes that I considered buying. However, the tripod is so flimsy as to be useless. luckily, I have a very stable camera tripod that I have been using. The spotting scope is also very flimsy, although I did manage to get it sighted-in, and it seems to be working OK. I recommend this as a beginners telescope/spotting scope with the caveat that the furnished tripod is not usable.
